As always I am realy excited when the English season starts up. Tomorrow it is kick-off again and who will be the winner at the end?

As a Liverpool FC fan I am offcause hoping that we will take the trophy and with the new players for this season I realy think it is possible even though Chelsea FC offcause will be a giant treath together with likes of Arsenal and Man.Utd.

But as a little tread..... anyone up for some thoughts? Who is gonna be:

1.Champion?

2.Runner-up?

3.Third?

4.Toppscorer?

POMPOY`S tips goes like:

1.LIVERPOOL

2.CHELSEA

3.ARSENAL

4.SHEVCHENKO (Chelsea)

Anyone else?

Go Liverpool!!!!! :)

i'll be slightly merciful this time and do the short version first:

1. chelski

2. arsenal jr.

3. moaners

4. sheva (coz he kinda looks like jimbah. no one's ever seen both of them in the same place either.)

1. chelski they ought to be interesting this year. i'd expect them to start out rusty, but there's more going on there than mere cash. it's a loooong season.

2. arse didnt sign anyone yet except rosicky (who is smallish but talented). but expect the young guys to continue to grow up fast, especially cesc. wonder at what point of the season we'll see theo walcott?

3. moaners going for hargreaves is interesting, this is pending signing him. he wants to move, he was one of the few highlights of england's world cup final. that, and seeing wright-phillips and crouch standing next to each other. i put 'em 3rd, but i don't have much confidence in their finishers, although maybe they'll sign another striker, or the kids will be alright (rossi maybe, but i dont think he's ready).

4. liverpool have made some interesting signings, they're a bit of a wild card. i put 'em at fourth but they are the least predictable IMO after signing potential loose cannons like bellamy and kuyt. they have a decent shot to finish 2nd or even win it if they don't have chemistry problems.

mercifully, when liverpool decided to to take a dutch striker, they took kuyt instead of taking huntellaar from ajax. huntelaar is hands down the best young dutch striker, van basten had his head up his ass for not taking him to the world cup (yet he still has a job). i'm glad liverpool repreated van basten's mistake and took kuyt, not huntelaar.

as for goal scorer, henry's a good bet but... sheva scores in ITALY. ITALY. think about it. they play real defense over there. not for nothing is it the dullest league on the planet, thank god for the scandal to at least make it worth reading about (if not watching).

also, if football manager 2006 is a great predictor, mansfield town will be in the top flight by about 2010--but only if they hire me as manager.

1. Where we u when u were **** - For the sake of the game who can stop them. They will be to strong agan. So much talent but not exactly exciting

2. Calm down - Good tactical side, wont concede many but wont score enough either. Belamy and Kuyt good signings, butnot quite enough

3. Man U - Keane and V. Nistleroy gone and no replacement found. Solid defence, ok midfiled but not enough goals as Saha gets injured, Rossi aint quite there yet and Rooney will be collecting cards faster than FB2

4. Henry - Pure class, great he stayed in premiership

But HEY my money was ion England v Spain WC final, so what do i know

Fifa 2005 seems to think Watford are in for a top three finish and Europe in their first season.

fifa schmeefa for video games pro evolution/winning eleven series is much more satisfying. more demanding though---you have to do things like AIM your passes.

football manager 2006 is by the same people who did championship manager (licensing issue, CM will continue under different... ah.. management). it's focus is entirely on management, you don't use a joystick at all. i'm still waiting for mansfield town to realize i'm their savior and all (or leyton orient, that was who i took to the CL in CM04).

hey guys, i'm available, c'mon. i promise i won't let a big spanish team steal me...

but *do* keep an eye on watford

It will be a lot closer this year. Chelsea have great players but Mourinho might have difficulty keeping everyone happy.

For Arsenal and Man Utd to have any chance of winning the league they both need Henry and Rooney to stay clear of suspension and injury.

For Liverpool, it will depend if new signings Kuyt, Bellamy Gonzalez and Pennent are good enough.

Top goalscorer Henry.

I think Arsenal are going to be strong this year with the young blood.

Chelsea are going to have problems too many stars and Mourhinio who is greyer by the day didnt seem to know his best team yet against Liverpool, should be interesting, if he does it again he is indeed special, I do admit the money helps, thanks Roman

Bellamy and Pennant are good signings, but have over promised and under delivered for some time with their proffesionalism.

UTD have a solid team and Sir Alex is a cunning Manager so I dont see him rolling over for Chelsea.

I think its going to be a closer call than last year.

1. Chelski pains me to say it, but their ability to buy any f**ker they want gives a significant edge.

2. Arsenal we need a centre half and strong central midfielder. still a little bit under-strengh and light weight to compete with Chelski. mind u IF we got 40 millon quid for reyes and cashley cole and IF wenger spent it we could have a strong enough squad to put down a serious challenge.

3. Liverpool usually i'd put down Man Ure, but they'e sold Van Nils and haven't replaced him ... mainly because Liverpool and Chelski r buying up all the centre forwards available.

4. Henry .... like there's any question about it !!!

funniest thing i've read in ages was Chelski complaining to the FA about Bates calling RA "a siberian shyster" ... what's wrong does the truth hurt or does he not come from siberia ??

  • 1 month later...

Spurs doing rubbish...worst start for 14 years and languishing in 17th! Hope Jol proves his worth and brings the team up the table to where they belong! I wonder if we will do a Boro and be very mediocre in the league but have a good run in Europe?

If thats the case then i hope we go one better than boro and win the UEFA cup but on current form it looks like we will struggle to get into the group stages.

My Telegraph fantasy football team is doing rubbish too!

Fergie should have gone after he won the treble. It seemed the right time to bow out with your head held high having won rpetty much everything. Now it looks he may skulk off possibly with his tail between his legs if the Glazers done think he is delivering.

Agreed with macca_tirana about Smith to be back playing again. Lets see how he does back in his more normal role of striker rather than holding midfielder.
