S123arpedon
The draw has been made for the UEFA cup. Spurs open their campaign with a tricky tie away to Besiktas, then at home to Bruges at White Hart Lane. Another away trip to Bayer Leverkusen and finish at home to Dinamo Bucharest. Very tricky away ties...Turkey is a hostile place to go with the fans being so passionate. Newcastle also have a tricky group with fixtures against Fenerbahce and Celta Vigo and will travel to Sicily to take on Palermo and end the group with a trip to Frankfurt. Palermo look a good side Blackburn face Feyenoord, Basle, Wisla Krakow and Nancy in Group E, while Rangers play Auxerre, Livorno, Partizan Belgrade and Maccabi Haifa in Group A. All these games are played before the champions leage dropouts come in, and then there are still 32 teams in it! With so many teams in the competition it seems ridiculous and devalues the comptition but I am happy to see Spurs in Europe pl;aying some good Euopean teams...Leverkusen and Besiktas will be exciting games i think. Norfolkinchance
Hiya Sarps! Long time no see. Spurs should be OK, although their EPL form is less than inspiring. Newcastle will go out at this stage, for sure. What do you think of the mighty Villa so far this year? Will be in Europe next season me thinks!! S123arpedon
Hey there Norfolkinchance... Spurs might be doing a Boro this season where they do well in Eurpoe and not so well in Eurpoe or could it be an Everton where they go out of Eurpoe and do average in the league...I hope they do well all round! Newcastle have a hard group but not much harder than Spurs have got. They also have more Eurpoean experience too. If they play well then they should go quite far... Villa did very well to get O'Neil in. He is a great motivator and knows how to get the best of out a limited squad. I think this is showing already. Eurpoe is not of the question with him in charge...we are playing your boys next and i am quite worried. I think Villa will do well this season. its great to see O'Neil back in the game too...passionate and a good character to have in the game. S123arpedon
Managed to see quite a few games on TV when i was back in the UK. A great night for the British teams in the UEFA cup. Blackburn showed good character to come back and win their game 2-1. Great result for Spurs with a 2-0 win in Turkey against Besiktas. Seeing some vids online and the Turkish fans are as passionate as anyone! The noise they make seems unbelievable. What a great goal from Berbatov. Well done to Newcastle too agasint tricky Turkish opposition and the away fans sure made some noise!!

I went to watch Man United play Galatasaray in Istanbul a few years back. The noisiest and most intimidating fans i have ever come across. The only time i was ever glad United didnt wiin. S123arpedon
I would rather be a winner of UEFA Cup than the whipping boys of the CL! Another great night for British teams in the UEFA Cup. Spurs with a 3-1 win over FC BRugges which saw the return of former spurs player Jonathan Blondel (once knows as the Belgian Beckham). After going 1-0 down, goals from Berbatov and Keane secured the win! Next up is an away trip to Leverkusen, the old stomping ground of Berbatov. That should be a cracking game. Newcastle did well against Palermo...they seem to be able to get results in Europe and do nothing in the league!
CiaranM
I would rather be a winner of UEFA Cup than the whipping boys of the CL! remind me again ... isn't the UEFA Cup for teams that weren't good enough to qualify for the CL !! 'course i can't say much ajax crapped out of the CL before even getting to the whipping-boys stage... so ... um... go spurs. <<hides>>
GoldMember
Put a not unsubstantial bet on the match between Palermo and Newcastle.Bet was both sides would score more that 1.5 goals in 90 mins. The rest is history.Palermo are becoming a deathwish 8)

The teams that fail to make the knockout stages of the CL do go into the CL but for what its worth, no CL 'reject' team has ever won the UEFA Cup... ...I await the reply from ZBH proving me wrong! Used to be playing in the Vauxhall Conference but now plying their trade in League 1. Struggling a bit this season and currently in the bottom 3. It will be a massive achievement if they avoid relegation back to league 2. I remember them beating Bromsgrove Rovers 3-1 years ago when Brett Angell was playing for them!
