Loburt
The best way to judge how bad a countries drink problem is buy the amount of cases of psoriasis of the liver, and the rate of growing cases. Psoriasis is a skin condition. I think you mean cirrhosis of the liver.

sunsnow
 Read this on Bangkokpost. Thailand ranks No. 5 in the world for consumption of alcohol. On average, a Thai consumes 14 litres of alcoholic drinks per year, according to the Thailand Development Research Institute. http://www.who.int/substance_abuse/publications/global_status_report_2004_overview.pdf Look at page 17 and 18 for something real perhaps. Thailand's located between Canada and USA, surely two rolemodels. It just goes to show much research these renowned BKK Post journalists on average actually do. You just hit the bullseye! So, I was wrong here when I thought that they must mean pure alcholol, just because that is the normal way to say anything about statistical use of alcohol!! (I ignored the actual words they used "alcoholic drinks" really meant "drinks" then, not alcohol, I just thought that they would use at BKK Post something that normally is used when talking about use of booze)... Bangkok Post is presenting here figure that is then something totally uncomparable to any statistics, "comparability" to other countries! Ok, 14 litres of drinks...so...that ain't lot after all then... Interesting notice: look the next pages where they break down how the 100% alcohol sums up - there Thailand is, in spirits section (ie. thai whisky I would sya) with over 7 liters... Sylver
------------------------------------------------------ Minimum age raised to 25 for buyers of booze ... Health authorities have stepped up measures to curb alcohol consumption among youth by moving up the minimum legal age of buyers from 18 to 25 years. ... A study conducted this year by the National Economic and Social Development Board found the number of young drinkers, aged 15-24, has increased from 21.6% to 23.5%. It also found that Thais started drinking at a younger age, with almost 50% of new drinkers aged between 15-19 years old. The funny bit, from my viewpoint... almost 50% of the new drinkers are *already* below the existing age limit. So what's the point of raising the age limit, when the current one isn't working? I was always amazed that a very cheap bottle of low quality wine (e.g. Bardolino) costs about the same a bottle of JW Black Label. 75cl of 41% alcohol the same as 75 cl of 12% ? Strange. Well, with this price structure, no wonder people buy high percentage alcohol. And then perhaps no wonder there is a drinking problem
