Months and tee laew/gorn

Ajarn Cheery & Onlynx,

I'm currently 'working' on times and dates etc. and have a couple of questions that I need a little help with.

1) Months

I see months referered to in two different ways, for example

¾ÄȨԡÒ¹ - with 'yon' at the end

and

à´×ù¾ÄȨԡÒ - without the 'yon' but preceeded by deeun (month)

Are there rules about when/where to use each instance, or will either use be correct.

I'm aware that 'yon' 'com' and 'pan' at the end of the word are used to signify the number of days in the month, are they usually left out in conversation?

2) ago, in the past

I have seen 'two days ago' written in two different ways.

ÊçÇѹ·ÕèáÅéÇ (soong wan tee laew)

and

ÊçÇѹ¡èù (soong wan gorn)

Is there a grammatic difference between the two uses, and again is there a correctly place to use each one, or will either be correct?

Thanks guys and girls, the help given in this forum is invaluable.

Rich.

Misty,

Thanks for that, I can forget all the Thai words for days of the week now, for all past tense things.

"Rich when did you arrive in Thailand" "Ah... Wan gorn"

As I struggle to know what day it is today, that's cool :)

Bobby,

Out of interest, what lessons are you following to learn Thai?

I'm using B. P. Becker's "Thai for beginners" and it's pretty damn good.

Rich.
