friendlyCat
Moving to Thailand in December, 2007. I have visited as a tourist 6 times in the past 10 years. Now thinking about where to live as a base of operations. Goals for year one are to relax, meet people, have fun and begin to learn Thai. Where in Bangkok do you live and why? Since I don't know what school I will be attending, or my daily activities, it seems that being near the metro or bts is a necessity. Seems that some of the "suburbs" of bangkok are more popular than others. For example, I have not met any falang living in Thornburi. Can you tell me were you chose to live and why? thanks. khun_lung
Like Stu, Phaholyothin Road. Why? The place is clean and modern, not too expemsive, close to the Aree Station, and convenient to go anywhere from here. And everything I need is nearby. 911nozomi
I was born and raised in phrakanong, sukhumvit 71. Here is good to get to sky train and street food open almost all night. A real paradise for food lovers. (^.=)
babyoiy
Saphanmai Because it's the area where my aunt bought the house. By that time, we were seeking for a new house and been to many places but at the end of the day we all said yes to this house.

The Punisher
All alone in a nice apartment in Phyathai, because it is very central, quiet, only a 1 minute walk to the Skytrain, and 15 minutes from my work

Diogenes
Would recommend Ratchathewi (and here in particular "Evergreen Place Serviced Apartments"). It is close to BTS (1 min walk), MBK, Siam Paragon, Siam Square etc. (1 BTS stop, or 5 Min walk). Stayed there several times and for several month each stay. bkkris
I live on Sukhumvit road near soi 35. It is near the BTS, and all sorts of Western restaurants and stores, as well as lovely park. I love it. Used to live in On Nut in a luxury townhouse in a gated community. That was isolating. If you don't need to be somewhere every day, I went to someone's place in Thonburi that is the best pad in Bangkok I've seen. It was basically a house build on top of a low rise apartment, with windows (and views) on all four sides. A semi outdoor shower and kitchen. No air con. The cost? 4000 baht. Amazing. But an ordeal to get anywhere promptly.
CocoaBrotha
Saphan Khwai area 10 minute walk from the BTS. Aint no brothas around there, so I just add to the flavor. Besides, I love the look when they see a black guy walk down they're streets. Priceless!
anenglishman
Ekkamai, because the best cheesecake in BKK is sold downstairs. Hmm......I now know exactly where u live. U might wanna move........I think our cheesecake is better I live at Asok, opposite Queen Sikrit Park. On reflection I think I made a mistake and will move to Thonglor/Ekkamai because 1) close to my main business 2) more fun in terms of shopping/food/entertainment 3) far, far away from the more salalcious areas of Suhkumvit
Aphrodite
Sathorn : because it's close to my office.well....I always think that it's close to everything. Yes same reason here. It only takes 10 min for me to go to the office by a motorbike in the morning; plus its really close to where you live so we can go partying together all the times My exact address is on Chan road (Sathorn area). Its close to the BTS and there're a lot of GOOD street food all night. There're not many farangs in this area so everytime my friends stop by, people always wonder (and perhaps gossip) why I have a lot of farang friends hahaha
JohnR6
Sukhumvit, near Asok.... near BTS/MRT, not too far from work, not too far from the nightlife!
