Loburt
I'm not aware that they've had any bad safety record in the past. Thai had a terrible crash a few years ago in Surat Thani. Also in bad weather.

Matthew
Just read in The Nation: One-to-Go airline promises to pay compensation Udom Tantiprasongchai, chairman of Orient Thai Airlines which operates low cost airline One-Two-Go, said Sunday the first thing he would do is going to Phuket with officials from the insurance company. Is that all they think about - money?
Loburt
I'm sure that is NOT all they think about. But out here, that is one of the first questions that gets asked by reporters and families.
Loburt
The entire item from The Nation website: Udom Tantiprasongchai, chairman of Orient Thai Airlines which operates low cost airline One-Two-Go, said Sunday the first thing he would do is going to Phuket with officials from the insurance company. "We need to do our best in taking care of the injured and take care of the families of the victims," he said. "I'm deeply sorry with this tragic event. So far, I have been informed as much as you are. I will need to trail further investigation what caused this tragedy," He also promised that the victims receive maximum compensation. He did not say which insurance company or the insurance coverage.
Fujico
I just watched the news on TV here in Japan. Its a terrible accident.
Horizonte
Udom Tantiprasongchai, chairman of Orient Thai Airlines I saw him on an Isaan Air NO-FLY list somewhere, not sure what website. By the way they never changed the interiors of the Mad Dogs, they still have CO interiors when they picked them out of the desert to fly for One Two Go. That tells me one thing, they did not do a C/D check probably, cause that requires you to strip the entire plane to check for corrosion and all issues, and that means taking entire cabin out, but the whole Continental Airlines cabin was still intact. I flew them 2 times, from URT and CNX. I love the Mad Dogs, but prefer the MD-83, MD-88. MD-87 hot rod and the MD-90s with IAE V2500 engines Some Indo Airlines had been pushing them very hard especially Lion Air.
Loburt
You want to write that all in English so we know what you're talking about? Seems to me, from first reports, that this had nothing to do with the condition of the plane, but trying to land in very bad weather. A passenger on a flight that landed shortly before the ONe-Two-Go flight and was interviewed on CNN said it was the worst landing he had ever experienced because of the weather. His words were "the most violent" landing he had ever been through.
Slurms
BBc are reporting up to a 100 dead ...and 23 seriously injured...horrific as by all accounts the dead burned alive from within the fuselage ..... what's the news from Thailand ? Loburt
Horizonte - do you think the condition of the plane might have had some bearing on its ability to withstand the crash? Aren't there regulations that these kinds of things have to be checked? Is enforcement a problem?
babyoiy
BBc are reporting up to a 100 dead ...and 23 seriously injured...horrific as by all accounts the dead burned alive from within the fuselage .....what's the news from Thailand ? I saw in telly report 48+85 of survivors / undiscovered / dead (not sure which number for what). Still wondering is it a coincidence that there are 10 plus cabin crews apart from 123 passengers or what? why the total amount is 133... They also named names but I didnt see if it's the list of survivor or dead ones or those undiscovered so I dont post those names. mass media.... which one to believe.. this is what I saw from ch. 7. They just said Dead 88, so maybe there are 48 survivors and 85 dead or undiscovered (which now become 88 ) Added 10.23pm : all passenger including the crew are total 130... 43 are survived + 87 bodies found

babyoiy
Reported that what cause the accident is about Airplane not weather. The tyre (if you call it so for airplane's - oh yeah I dont have any knowledge about aircraft - dont want to ring my uncle who studied in aircraft maintenance to ask what it called. *sarcastic*) exploded while it landed on the runway. I guess that's why the witness said no announce that captain find any difficulties landing. Sure the management of Orienthai will have to explain... and is/are on the way to there.. I saw it with my own eyes, they bringing a burned body out, still in sitting position.... ouch!!
babyoiy
shhhhhhh.... he may sue us on behalf of Orient Thai... (of course there are more than one plane crashed in a day for the weather like this. But it's a non-serious so there is no news and if we are not working in related field, how we will get to know that?.... not yet ring my uncle, not yet ring my cousin... dont wanna wake them but this such thing I can think by self.) Gunner
Sad news indeed. Thoughts and warm wishes to the survivors and the bereaved. This kind of accident (be it 'plane, train or bus) is not wholly uncommon globally but unfortunately the risks are still there however small. Let's hope those who didn't make it are in a better place now.
