GAV
It is now 8.30 pm here now The polling booths closed at 6.00pm The Labour Party needed a 5.1 to 5.2% swing to form a govenment With abouth 30% of the vote counted not counting WA (as they are 2 hrs behind the Eastern States) there is a swing towards Labout of 6.12% We will wake up tomorrow with the prospect od a Labour govenment The exciting *** bit of the night is, it looks like the PM will loose his seat as well. Hopefully we will have a better Australia as a result of this election

GAV
Aust has been like a rudderless ship for the last 11.5 years. It has not had any direction or purpose, was ruled by a PM who made policy and legislation based on Prejudice. The only National inferstructure put in place in the last 10 years was the Alice to Darwin rail line The Rudd Govenment has a business plan they have direction. We have HOPE If Howard goes tonight, he wil be only the 2nd every PM to loose his site while in govenment. The last time this happened was in 1929. Dave40
Looks like John Howard will lose his seat of Bennalong, that last that happened was over 50 yrs ago, just goes to show how much he lost touch with the Australian people Workchoices was the worst thing he ever did!!!! The Economy is going well at the moment, the US Sub Prime, etc etc, will not help Kev going into 2008!!! And dare I say the R Word, who knows what will happen in the next couple of years!!! ( R= Recession!!)

luckyphil247
Good news boys , time to celebrate , unfortunately I am at work now . Might have some drinks tomorrow night to celebrate John Howards' farewell . Australia's best ever prime minister ??? My f*cking ass and good riddance , I'll always remeber him as a snake . I feel more secure about the future with the new labour government . The liberal party no doubt , were planning to make the Industrial Relations laws even worse . All the hard work by the Unions in the last 100 years was slowly getting thrown out the window . Make no mistake about it , the Unions have made Australia the great country it is today . 38 hr week , annual leave , sick leave , unfair dismissal , redundancy entitlements , maternity/paternity leave ... the list goes on . Governments dont just hand out these rights , people need to fight for them . F*ck the liberal party , they're all f*cking snakes .

GAV
Now that the election is over it is a time to reflect, one what has gone before and where we want to go as a NATION Not as a Labour government, or as a pro union government. But a Nation. A Country is no different to a business, it needs a business plan. Something that has been lacking for the last 11 years. We need to start building infrastructure again, start replacing skills we have lost and acquiring new skills for the future. Issues like Health, Education, Foreign Policy, Defense, Work reform, Communication, Climate control Renewable Energy and Agriculture, need to be addressed so we can move forward. We don?t need Nuke Energy, Troops in Iraq, A return to Militant unionism, or Dollar worshiping Multi Nationalism. We do need co operation between business, workers and government to solve our problems and fix our mistakes. This is our country so we all need to work together. Other wise it wont matter who is in government, it will be just more of the same. Remember we have to GIVE to GET.

BJ
Best news I have had while being slightly pissed, bye bye to the lying ,duding piece of crap, and even his own electorate has flushed him. Whats so good is a lady journalist cleaned him out. But look what a bloody mess he's left the country in,oh! only 7% interest but now the all Australian dream has gone and you don't only pay 7% you pay $300,000 for a house worth $65000 10 yrs ago,so he should be real proud of himself with his treasurer. Will have to be a an almighty effort by the Labour party to correct, thats if they can. waza
I concur............It good to see a labour government again, even if its a right wing government. I would have prefered Mark Latham, pity he went insane lol.

Jarnyi
Good riddance Johnny. Wot a fraud. Been waiting 11 years for this. Hope Kev can follow in the footsteps of Hawke and Keating who had vision. Had we had someone like Kev in leadership instead of likes of Latham we would not have had to endure Johnny so long. The nightmare is over. Hopefully Kev u can move us on to being more than just a quarry for the Asian economic expansion. Finally can start having pride in my country again and look forward to the republic being on the agenda again (I hope). Kev ur a legend for ratifying Kyoto and saying 'sorry'. Fair mindedness and doing the right thing are at core of the values of 'mateship'; a word Johnny loved to use. 8)
