Well, the insulting exchanges aside, I'm still not sure what you are trying to say. Yes, the job of the police is crime prevention. And there are good cops and bad. And some people in some circumstances refuse to pay bribes and get away with it. But there is still a lot of bribe demanding, and criminal activity, being perpetrated by the police themselves. Several years back a Chulalongkorn professor published a study in which he listed all the illegal gambling dens in Bangkok. All were operating against the law with no problem because they were all paying off the police. And in fact, one of the largest gambling dens was owned by the wife of a police general. So were the police preventing crime? Their reaction to the report was to threaten the professor and have the commander of every police station in Bangkok file libel suits against him. They were all eventually withdrawn because everyone knew the report was true. Oh, and how could we forget about Chuwit? Were all the policemen he bribed preventing crime? Or were they breaking the law? What about the Border Patrol Police gang that was just caught that sent scores of innocent people to prison on false evidence because they refused to pay big bribes? Those poor people didn't get to walk away like you did for refusing to pay police a bribe. They got sent to jail. As I said earlier, there actually are plenty of honest cops, including the police chief Seri Temeyaves. But there are plenty of bad ones too. Its morally wrong and illegal. I understand it here is the rub. A junior policeman receives Bt3000 salary and about Bt5000 (monthly) from bribes so basically he cant live off his salary. As he progresses up his career it gets worse with a paltry income and a large bribe payment. So the bribe is endemic to the career of a cop - he cannot survive without it. That is how the system works. A senior career cop might receive BT700k in bribes and Bt80k in salary. (Senior policeman have to pay large sums to get their jobs which they recoup through bribes.) There is basically no policeman that I know who is getting paid more through his salary than he is receiving through kick backs. That is not healthy. Of course it is entirely you choice to do as you wish. If you are happy with what you have said here, and you believe you have been understood (I cant see any evidence of that) then ok. Arai kor dai. I hope that the 'laws', about which you seem to dream and fantasize, come to your rescue one day when (and if) you become a victim of bribery and/or corruption from one of your fellow Thai policemen, government officials etc. . How sad :cry: maybe because she has removed her rose colored glasses. bribery exists here in thailand. i have been with thai drivers that have paid bribes for wrong traffic moves. i have been with thai drivers that refuse to pay the bribes because of their beliefs and have paid full boat and the police walk away with their commission. if you choose to believe it exists, fine. if you choose to believe it does not exist, fine. you have your own beliefs i will not try to sway you from them. i just report what i see.
