funky_house
While flying back home to california. I found myself in first class with a couple of thai monks. Often in BTS, we would also see sign posted to give up seat for monks. Being a monk isn't so bad in thailand. Last year, I saw one in business class. he was on both my flight out and back on Thai. I imagine that they are pretty high up the ladder for upgrades. Good luck to them.
KingSpartan78
Well the monks hold to am ideal many of us can not aspire to, so I feel they deserve the respect they recieve. If the plane was full and somebody gave up there seat for the said monk thereby downgrading I would say fair play to them.

Yes same on Thai Airways in first class - "Please give up your seat for any monk". Obviously some complied with this....
scotne1
I figure you also have to put an asian spin on that and remember families generally help each other financialy here more than at home, and share wealth, and many monks come from well to do families, and may even have Money from before being a monk. Most monks are 5 years or less in the service. I highly doubt thai monks are making that much money in general, but it doesnt mean they dont have access to it. Also if they do recieve pay, I don't think they would usualy have any expenses so it could be very easy to save.
