They know Somchai and i think 36? of his cabinet / executive are banned from politics for 5 years this seems like an amazing victory for the yellow shirts.. Ngairo
I suggest everybody in Thailand ducks their heads......the Hercules C 130 is coming to the rescue.... Hercules sent to Asia for Bangkok evacuation....Tuesday, 02 December 2008 NZ Air Force Hercules will leave tonight for Singapore or Malaysia so it can be used at short notice to get New Zealanders out of Thailand, Prime Minister John Key said today. Mr Key said he was not satisfied that arrangements with commercial carriers would work and the Government wanted the transport aircraft within reach of Bangkok in case it was needed. If it was used, the Hercules C130 would fly to the military airbase of U-Tapao about 150km east of Bangkok where it would pick up New Zealanders who had been shuttled from the main international airport which has been occupied and closed by anti-government protesters since early last week. Mr Key said the exact number of stranded New Zealanders was not known but it could be up to 300. The Hercules can carry up to 65 passengers. It is being used because the Air Forces's two Boeing 757s are being repaired. Now...you will be able to hear it comiming once it get's north of Australia....the (old) plane is not sure if it's going to Malaysia or Thailand....(might have to do a TF synchronised candle light to get it there).....apparently there are boys still in their budgie minders fresh off the hotel mini bar wanting to leave......the wife's waiting.....can't understand why the boys are happily stuck in Bkk.....due to WW3...... I'm no adviser...but I've travelled on these planes before....whataever you do....don't hitch a ride.....unless your a keen rugby player.....and can swim....... Mr Key (no pun)....is still in broad discussions.....he's our new baby....xxx

sunsnow
Oh and ps: the thing is that you can't ever make sure some people, although they are not in any political party, do not take part in politics. Unless you kill them all! So to demand this kind of thing, is totally the same as asking from someone's relatives who you are keeping hostage "One gazzillion billion trillion dollars or you kill them". This is a demand, that cannot ever be met, aimed to actually only to say "we will kill them". Period. After all, again, Nelson Mandela -example is always good here. And if you don't know who he is: the guy ran amazing political victory from his prison cell. So, either you kill all Thaksinistas, or stop demanding ransoms that cannot be met. And GTFO. sunsnow
"Around 350,000 passengers remain stranded in Thailand since the closing of the airports," said Sasithara Pichaichannarong, permanent secretary at the tourism ministry, in an interview with the AFP news agency reports the Bangkok Post. But as my PAD supporting friend said yesterday: it is not that bad, they can fly out through provincial airports. (I think I am gonna make interesting summary of the one hour debate that we had yesterday, where both of us agreed Somchai must go but the discussion was the methods, and what ways PAD defends their actions...) MisterMatlock
Just read a report from jobsearch.com that over the past month, they have seen a reduction of jobs posted by companies by 58%... while the number of resumes submitted by individuals looking for employment is up by 42% over the same period. Another person I know who deals with head-hunters for her marketing company said that her head-hunter was surprised that they were still looking to hire people as almost all of his companies are in the process of laying employees off. LakeGeneve
Eva,who i was supposed to be flying with today, have not got any flights available now untill the 11th of December with an increase in price of 150 pounds...I have found a flight with Thai, for the 7th...do i take the chance and book this flight? I know it's hard to predict but I feel that because Thai are the national carrier, they will be getting flights in-and-out first... ADVICE PLEASE.... If you want honest advice then I would say you are taking a big risk to be going to Thailand right now. The situation is very very dangerous. At any moment it could all turn very very ugly and I am talking third world -nasty and dangerous. It is not at all so unlikely now. It is actually the way things are heading and so you would be flying into a virtual war zone or civil war within weeks or months. All those things you love about Thailand will no longer be the case [to the same degree anyway] and the reasons for you going there may not be valid anymore before too long. Just wait until after xmass and consider going in mid or late Jan. Just very risky now I think? I have to agree with the position taken by several people here that posting alarmist and misleading information can only make things worse by reinforcing information that is incorrect at best and downright dangerous at worst. I have lived in Thailand for 16 years, we have had our ups and downs - but it gets resolved. The situation at present is not good, and I would not try to pretend that all is rosy, but by the same token, the pockets of unrest and the protests are limited to specific places - please stop trying to make it sound as if Thailand is on the verge of war - that is plain wrong. My fiance tells me too that things are fine in all the areas that she travels through and wherever she goes - we live in Sukhumvit and she travels daily up to Lad Prao. All is fine in the areas where most expats live and out in the suburbs. Yes, you can safely catch the BTS or MRT to anywhere just the same as you have been able to since they started operations. I ask that everyone think very clearly and carefully before posting outright rubbish here, and before advising others about the supposed "dangers" of coming here, especially if you do not have current intimate knowledge of the country and the situation - and I dont mean by watching the international news media which is so full of sh*t that I am ashamed to work in the industry! Greer And I have to disagree and say you are delusional! Nobody has said everyday life on the BTS or MRT or for that matter anyplace downtown is dangerous YET. Rather it has been pointed out that the situation overall is indeed dangerous and volatile. Common sense would suggest it was NOT a good idea at all to be flying into Thailand right now [for one thing you dont know when you wil be able to fly back out! Which is kinda a bare minimum that one would expect of any civilized or safe place. So as for where people getting the information from? Stupid point you make! I will give one crude example! When the second plane flew into the second tower on 9/11 who do you suppose knew better what was happening? The people in the tower! or little old me sitting here in Dublin thousands of miles away having a cup of tea! watching it live on TV! As it happens had it not occurred to people that those not actually there may also be getting live reports from people who are! Funny that I have had several accounts of what is going on from people living in Bangkok and oddly enough they too seemed to be very angry and concerned about the situation- Strange that iniiit! I see no alarmist posts only very concerned ones! Oh and I see plenty of reasons to be very concerned. It may well work out alright and lets hope it does, but lets not kid ourselves either. expect and prepare for the worst and hope for the best But delusional is perhaps the person who having been to thailand once and watching TV in Dublin thinks that they have a clearer understanding of the situation in BKK than someone who has lived in the country for 16 years and is currently in situ. Well this is as dumb ass it gets. Akin to "Oh I am here and you are not- I know more than you" Well what is amazing is that after 16 years of living in Thailand you understand and know so little about the dynamics of Thai politics[Or perhaps politics in general] and what is taken place there. Whereas someone who has only visted Thailand about 10 times in a much shorter period of time is able to grasp the core issues and key developments far better than you ever would or could. Just to clarify as you seem to be confused, Greer is the one who has been here for 16 years and I think he made a very good reply to your alarmist initial post. Some in BKK do agree with you and some don't. I didn't and considered your post to be reckless, I disagree with the proposition that somehow the guy in Dublin having been to thailand once should be giving advice about the current situation in BKK. Call me crazy! In your profile you state that you have been to thailand "on my one and only time". So now it is 10 times? Ok but I think I will still trust the judgement of the guy who has lived here for 16 years. Some in BKK have also expressed dire views but they are here and are able to refer to specific incidents or info. Some of us have disagreed on the forum but no one pretends to be an expert on all things, we are struggling to understand everyhting even if we think we have a sense of the fundamentals. The dishonest ploy of stating that I am just watching TV in Dublin when I had specifically indicated various possibilities for information and perspective is just typical of your lack or integrity, credibility and wisedom. Yes one should always get their info from a wide variety of sources before reaching a conclusion. But pls clarify where in your original post you indicated that you alarmist views were based on such a wide scope of information sources and backed up by an objective understanding of recent political events? Dishonest is perhaps someone rewriting something they didn't state before to make themselves look better when clearly they had little idea in the first place. I will agree with the proposition that I am not so wise. You do not dont need to be in situ to read a general situation. Far from it, one can have a wealth of knowledge and understanding for a variety of reasons. Not least of which could be contacts with numbers of people already living in situ and getting a broad set of views and feed back from this. So your on the phone 24/7 with all the people you know in thailand from your one visit. Come on pls don't make things up. If this was the case you would be saying, 'so and so told me that and thus I have come to the conclusion', and not giving alarmist views pretending they are your own. Funny that you didn't mention all of the "contacts" in your orginal post, if would have given it a least a little bit credibility. I for one am having trouble finding the time to keep in touch with everyone i know in bangkok, so your doing very well being in Ireland. Not to also mention the many detailed articles by well informed people who have studied Thailand and it's politcs and economics for years! In short: The "I Live here you don't" argument is crap! because it has it's own limitations and depends on so many things- like how bright or astute or even interested a person might be, in a range of topics/issues/features within a country. Happy for you to post your reading list as I for one am always keen to read more and I am sure that others would welcome it. It seems to be beyond you to expand out this concept and see that the point clearly being made is that the assumption of "being there" as being better than actually observing from afar with plenty of informed and logical information is not always true at all. Yes I will admit that I find it perplexing that someone from afar having been to the country once and monitoring 24/7 should think they are an expert on the situation. Ok lets have a deal. I'll update you on the number of fights at pubs in Dublin on the weekend, and you keep advising others about the security situation in BKK. I worked in Afghanistan for 15 months a few years ago. However, I wouldn't even for one moment think that I could tell Heretic AKA Jaya IIV (we have had some interesting disagreements) regarding the security situation in Herat there even though I am in regular touch with afghans and colleagues. I am not there I don't know. He won't know everything but he is at least there and will have a better idea than moi. In conclusion: You should be less concerned with the poster and try deal with the post and it's actual contents as opposed to the way you twist and spin what has been said/wrote! It is a common mistake made on TF and usually only shows the lack of credibility of people like you who resent others knowing and understanding more than you about certain issues.! No one is concerned about the poster, just concerned with those making ignorant alarmist posts. Fact is that you have not made any worthwhile case for your arguments and ignore the critical information at will! I don't doubt that you know more than me on many issues. But where was the critical information supporting your alarmist post? You didn't source anything in your original post, you didn't back up your views with objective facts referring to specifics. It was all generalisations. You are entitled to your opinion but pls don't whinge and moan so much if for some strange reason some of those currently in BKK disagree with your alarmism when your in Dublin and have only been to thailand once! But by all means pls keep updating us on the events in BKK from Dublin. Pls advise when Cheang Wattana road will be open and if Radamnoen Nok Road is already closed as I will be travelling between both places in the next hour. I want to see how Por-Orn and Madame Deangs husband ( if the actually turns up). But you probably already know the answer to that! (Yes I am being facetious!) sunsnow
btw, LakeGeneva: have you ever considered that some people might not want to reveal truths about themselves in their profiles. Although Allseasonsman says in profile he has been in Thailand only once, there is no reason for believe it. Just it puts light into the fact that maybe most times one should address peoples postings on their own merit, (which you also do on your recent reply), not on where they say they live, what they do or what they are...Just saying.
