But when it comes right down to it, and assuming Japan, Australia, Korea and China take the first four slots, it is a matter of beating the likes of Iran, Qatar, UAE and the Saudis, and then winning the Oceania playoff presumably against New Zealand. None of those are unbeatable teams. I tip the Chinese right now over the Persians for 2014 because of the age profile: Dong Fangzhuo will be 29; Han Peng 31; Gao Lin 28; Zhao Xuri 28; Mao Jianqing 28; Shen Longyuan 29. The Saudis, and the Persians, fielded older players in 2006; only 2 Saudis (Al Bishi and Al Harthi) and 2 Persians (Kaabi and Madanchi) could possibly figure for 2014.
