Tell him you'll pay for his taxi there on the first day, but ask for a "demo lesson". 20 minutes should do it. If you're going to be paying 600 an hour or more, it stands to reason you should see what kind 'skills' the guy has (and for the level you're requesting, YES, there are some skills necessary.) If the teacher is good, you can book him/her for more lessons. If they're rubbish, you're out a taxi fare and they're out some time... It should help weed out the crap. (I'd say ask to see qualifications, but there are so many fakes that's it's pointless. Might be worth asking for anyway.)
