You don't read stuff like this often in the local press but it was good to see a newspaper actually do some investigative journalism to discover what everybody who regularly walks up and down lower Sukhumvit or near Benjasiri (and more frequently near MBK too) knows all too well. The Thai BMA completely look the other way as Thais flick cigarette butts on the sidewalk or throw trash but target foreigners (especially tourists) with a 2000 baht fine to be paid on the spot.

TERRIFIED passengers flying from London to Hong Kong reportedly braced for a possible crash into the sea after a pilot mistakenly played an emergency message.
According to The Sun, the 275 passengers on the British Airways Boeing 747 heard the message: "This is an emergency. We may shortly need to make an emergency landing on water."
The passengers prepared for the worst as they headed over the North Sea, until cabin crew ran down the aisles of the plane to reassure them the message had b
Incredibly popular Internet linkdump Reddit was informed by its corporate parent, Conde Nast, that it could not sellads supportingProposition 19, California's marijuana legalization ballot initiative. So Reddit figured out how to preserve its soul and screw Conde, too.
They've decided to simply run the ads for free. According to Reddit's official statement on its site, the company founders asked Conde about its decision and were told "As a corporation, Conde Nast does not want to benefit fina

Just wanted to give a little update on how we've been doing in terms of raising funds for Wanphen's family. We're now at over 15,000 baht in donations. Most of that has come from the poker community who have stepped up and made contributions.
We're still a ways off from what we want to raise so please spread the word on FB or Twitter or wherever you think you can reach people.
Just PM me if you need my PayPal or other info.
I didn't think I was going to like this movie but I love Rob Corddry on The John Stewart Show so I gave it a try. It's not comic genius or anything but it's a fun though predictable movie.
Another Rob Corddry flick that I thought was going to suck but I was pleasantly surprised by was Operation Endgame.
I don't think I would have paid to see them in the theatre but for 100 baht from your local DVD vendor they're a good way to kill 90 minutes.
I just got back from go karting down at the track at RCA. Man, what fun. It's a bit expensive at 1000 baht for 2 turns behind the wheel (each race is 8 or 10 laps, I forget). But the 270cc kart is fast and the karts handle great.
I think the last time I rode in a go kart I was a kid. They were lawnmowers strapped on a frame with wheels. These things are quick and can handle pretty good.
I was thinking of maybe doing a TF event there at some point. There's an eating, drinking, and vie
Ron Fanelli, the guy who killed Wanphen Pianchai (see here for our TF charity event for her family), has apparently requested a psychiatric examination. According to Phuket Wan Fanelli's lawyers have asked on his behalf for an examination in order for him to better understand why he killed Wanphen.
Another strange twist in this very sad story.
Why do websites try to get all tricky like this? I was trying to sign up for a Thailand Friends account on Flickr and the signup page is entirely in Thai. There is nothing on the page to take you to an English language version.
I had the same thing happen quite often with Facebook and MySpace when I lived in Gibraltar (and English speaking country). They would always show me pages in Spanish because Gibraltar's ISPs must funnel their traffic through the Spainish system so the IP maps to Sp
From the Bangkok Post
The rail link will charge promotional fares until the end of the year on its city and express lines. It expects to serve up to 50,000 passengers a day.
The service has been operating on a trial basis since June 1, attracting about 17,000 people a day travelling for free.
State Railway of Thailand (SRT) governor Yutthana Thapcharoen yesterday led an inspection of the rail link and its facilities to ensure it was ready for commercial services.
Mr Yutthana insisted
Grab your cameras and head out with us to Wat Arun to get in some great photos. Unless anyone has a better suggestion I was thinking we could meet at the Saphan Taksin BTS and all take the boat up the river from there.
October 17 (Sunday) 12 Noon.
Just wanted to get out and take some pics at these two popular tourist attractions. It's always good to learn from each other on these TF photography events so why not come out and hang out?
Details:
Meet at the entrance to the Grand Palace at 11am on Sunday Sept 26.

I was at the Ball in Hand on Soi 4 yesterday and saw that Loso was going to be playing at Climax on Nov 12. I've never seen them live and thought it would be a good show.
It does appear that you need to order your tickets in advance though.

David Conner Purcell, the Australian who took to the stage during the red shirt protests to regale the crowds with his military analysis of various grenade attacks has plead guilty and was released from jail. He was given a 45 day sentence (the same given to Englishman Jeff Savage over a month ago) but since he had spent more than 45 days in jail and was released.
On July 8 when Savage plead guilty and was released Purcell defiantly pleaded not guilty, insulted the judge, and has been held i
Why am I posting these instead of Chris? Good question. Chris had to take off to China for work and emailed these to me because he didn't have time to resize and upload.
Bonus points for anyone who was not at Ciaran's birthday party and can name the bar Ciaran is stripping in. :-)
