Go Kart Racing @ RCA

I just got back from go karting down at the track at RCA.  Man, what fun.  It's a bit expensive at 1000 baht for 2 turns behind the wheel (each race is 8 or 10 laps, I forget).  But the 270cc kart is fast and the karts handle great.

I think the last time I rode in a go kart I was a kid.  They were lawnmowers strapped on a frame with wheels.  These things are quick and can handle pretty good.

I was thinking of maybe doing a TF event there at some point.  There's an eating, drinking, and viewing area so people can come just to watch and hang out if they don't want to race.

Highly recommended if you're looking for something out of the ordinary to do.

Gee,

I've thought of that. I have a few different views.

1. There is a viewing area, a kitchen, and drinks available there. People who just want to come and watch and hang out can do so.

2. Since it's at RCA we can always schedule an outing to a nightclub when we're finished.

3. We do have events that have relatively steep price tags like the Hua Hin trip we did during the curfew, trips to Phuket, Samui, etc. Obviously, no matter how cheap you do things you're going to spend a few grand. Many Thais have gone to these events. Obviously some can't but that didn't stop people from organizing them.

Given the above I would lean in the direction of doing an event.

Gee... TF has to cater for all tastes and pockets.

If there are a variety of events, people can pick and choose the ones they want or can afford to attend.

If someone really wants to go, they have 2 months to save 1000 baht.

If people feel the events are unsuitable for them, they can arrange their own cheap-ass event.

You can do the smaller 160cc one for something like 420 for one race. The 270cc you can only buy a two race package at 1000 baht.

But I don't think they would let the 160cc race with the 270cc because they would slow everyone down.

Okay, just heard back from them and it seem it gets more expensive if you go as a group (what?). They turn it into a full-blown event with a warm up (8 laps), qualifying (8 laps), and a final race of 15 laps. Plus there is a trophy for the winner, a bottle of champagne for the winner, welcome drinks, etc.

The funny part of their email response is they did not quote a final price. They just say that if it's more than 10 people that it's 1800 baht per additional person. So, I'm assuming that it's a bare minimum of 1800 a head plus I'm sure the price they forgot to quote isn't 1800 x 10. There's gotta be some additional overhead and 1800 is the per extra person price.

Oh, and those prices are before 4pm on weekdays and before 2pm on weekends. Otherwise slap another 30% on.

Anyway, sounds like it make more sense if we just show up with how many ever people. Have a blast even if we don't have the track to ourselves (when we went at around 3pm on Thurs there wasn't a single person there).

I'll look at the calendar and try to see when we can do this. Sounds like fun though. We may need to call ahead and book to make sure they don't have a corporate event or something else going on but I'll probably need a fairly accurate head-count. So I'll try to post the event far enough out that we have 6 - 8 weeks. Then we'll cut it off maybe 2 weeks ahead of time and make the reservations.
