We've been making steady progress. But this week, the United States Supreme Court handed a huge victory to the special interests and their lobbyists - and a powerful blow to our efforts to rein in corporate influence. This ruling strikes at our democracy itself. By a 5-4 vote, the Court overturned more than a century of law - including a bipartisan campaign finance law written by Senators John McCain and Russ Feingold that had barred corporations from using their financial clout to directly inte

Gross steps to the computer controller, and cranks up the system, so that all of the mirrors will start concentrating the sun’s rays on the towers. Gross says the system uses GPS positioning to code the precise placement of the sun and the mirrors anges, and that eSolar’s breakthrough is the software that quickly aligns the mirrors.
Gross checks in via walkie talkie and the system is at 500 degrees fahrenheit with 500 pounds of steam per square inch. When the system is at full
The Sea Shepherd's anti-whaling speedboat Ady Gill has sunk after it was sliced in two by a Japanese whaling vessel during a clash in the Southern Ocean on Wednesday.
Sea Shepherd founder Paul Watson told ABC News Breakfast the Ady Gill went down shortly before 3:30am AEDT while it was being towed to a French research base by the group's Bob Barker boat.
"I think they were towing for about six or seven hours," he said.
"Even the act of towing was taking more water on. The Japanese vessel h

The 1.2-megawatt La Ola Solar Farm is located on Lanai and will generate up to 30% of the island ́s peak electrical demand. Translated from Hawaiian, La Ola means "sun that gives life." The system will generate some 3 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually and will avoid more than 2,300 tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year.
Winner of the Audience Award for Best Documentary at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival, The Cove follows a high-tech dive team on a mission to discover the truth about the international dolphin capture trade as practiced in Taiji, Japan. Utilizing state-of-the-art techniques, including hidden microphones and cameras in fake rocks, the team uncovers how this small seaside village serves as a horrifying microcosm of massive ecological crimes happening worldwide.

"We are ready to get this done today but there has to be movement on all sides to recognize that it is better for us to act than to talk. Better for us to choose action over inaction; the future over the past. With courage and faith, I believe that we can meet our responsibilities to our people, and to the planet."President Obama
The treaty to reduce CFC emissions affecting the Ozone layer had a rough start too, but in end it turned out pretty good. It's important to act now on climate ch
Married (Happily) With Issues
By ELIZABETH WEIL
I.
I have a pretty good marriage. It could be better. There are things about my husband that drive me crazy. Last spring he cut apart a frozen pig’s head with his compound miter saw in our basement. He needed the head to fit into a pot so that he could make pork stock. I’m no saint of a spouse, either. I hate French kissing, compulsively disagree and fake sleep when Dan vomits in the middle of the night. Dan also once threatened to punch my b
Countries on every corner of this Earth now recognize that energy supplies are growing scarcer, energy demands are growing larger, and rising energy use imperils the planet we will leave to future generations. And that’s why the world is now engaged in a peaceful competition to determine the technologies that will power the 21st century. From China to India, from Japan to Germany, nations everywhere are racing to develop new ways to producing and use energy. The nation that wins this competition

In James Howard Kunstler's view, public spaces should be inspired centers of civic life and the physical manifestation of the common good. Instead, he argues, what we have in America is a nation of places not worth caring about. The National automobile slum and Dead Malls (And Moo Bans)

The Sun will be with us for billions years and it's free. For every job in a solar factory there are 10 jobs on the installation side, many of the Solar jobs are business and finance oriented.India has set a goal to install 20 Gig-A-Watt of Solar by 2020, this is the same amount electrical power that Thailand consumes. Under the Insight’s hood is a 1.3-liter four-cylinder engine putting out 98 horsepower and 123 lb-ft of torque—obviously tiny for what Honda claims is a five-passenger subcompact. It’s mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT), which provides infinite ratios to keep the engine operating within its most efficient range. On the upscale EX model, Honda offers paddle shifters mounted behind the steering wheel that give the driver the experience of a seven-speed gearbox. A CVT doesn’t actua
Energy Saving: Much Cheaper Than Building Power Plants!
by Thomas R. Blakeslee, Clearlight Foundation
On an electrical grid, supply must always exactly equal demand or the voltage goes unstable. Our utility laws very effectively encourage building of power plants to meet an ever-growing demand. This seemed like wise policy in the days of almost free energy but today it encourages gross investment inefficiencies. Power utilities maximize profits by spending as much as possible on expansion of
;Manufacturing innovations in silicon PV will decrease costs by 10% per year through 2020, at which point solar electricity becomes cheaper than coal. Think about the kind of life you want in 2020. 20 Billion dollar Nuclear Plants in Thailand will only a benefit a select few. While everyone in Thailand benefits from installation of Clean Solar PV , fueled by free energy from the Sun.http://1366tech.comString Ribbon PV Cellshttp://www.evergreensolar.com/app/en/home/
Green Concept Slowly Sinking In
Published on The Nation dated 21 September 2009
Climate change has resulted in an urgent need for environmental changes in production and practices across the world. In recognition of this, over the past few years, the green concept has become a prevalent issue in the real-estate industry. Several organisations such as the US Green Building Council with its LEED rating system (US), Green Star (Australia), BREEAM (UK) and Greenmark (Singapore) have been establi
