Edward Kennedy Funeral Mass - President Obama Eulogy

Good words for  a Senator with 45 years of service, he survived the civil rights movement, Vietnam War, the  assassination of his brothers John & Bobby, the dark days of Ronald Reagan, 9/11, the darker days of George W., two Iraq wars and Afghanistan. I don't recall Senator Kennedy ever being cynical about life, always hopeful for better a day.

1 Megawatt Hydrogen Fuel Cell Power Plant

This is a video of a 1 megawatt Fuel Cell Power Plant at California State University, Northridge, in Los Angeles, CA. The power plant has a reformer that separates hydrogen from natural gas and then feeds the hydrogen into a fuel cell, generating electricity. The plant also recovers the heat generated and uses it for domestic heating on campus. In the future, some of the carbon emitted will be sequestered in a sub-tropical rainforest (Orchid Farm) that is under construction. While at present t

Nuclear Power: The Safe and Easy Way

by Thomas Blakeslee, Clearlight Foundation Nuclear power is a gift from nature. It can be harnessed cleanly and safely but an accident of history got us started down a path that is dangerous and unnecessarily complicated. Today's nuclear power plants were adapted from reactor designs originally intended for production of plutonium for bombs. In the 1950's this plutonium output was considered a bonus, but today it has become an out-of-control nightmare. With 22,000 nuclear bombs already assem

Launch of new Yunus Center at AIT Thailand

Micro-finance development programs for poor people are becoming more accepted as way to improve their lives. This concept is being used in solar home system projects with good results. See also,Grameen Shakti, Bangladesh, Micro-finance solar home systems  In Thailand, the top 20% make 13 times more income than the bottom 20%. Is this condition sustainable in Thailand?

Two Websites From The Same Planet

http://www.nvenergy.com/   http://www.egat.co.th./eng/ What is your reaction to these Energy company websites?A little news from NV Energy,NV Energy and Renewable Ventures have announced that they have entered into a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) for the sale of energy produced from a 26-megawatt (MW) DC solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant that will be constructed near Apex, Nevada. The project, expected to be completed by the end of 2010, will be the second solar PV agreement that

The Green Poop

A New Test for Business and Biofuel By KIRK JOHNSON IGNACIO, Colo. — An unusual experiment featuring equal parts science, environmental optimism and Native American capitalist ambition is unfolding here on the Southern Ute Indian Reservation in southwest Colorado. With the twin goals of making fuel from algae and reducing emissions of heat-trapping gases, a start-up company co-founded by a Colorado State University professor recently introduced a strain of algae that loves carbon dioxide i

The Health Care Issue

Obama is holding his own pretty well, an amazing man. It seems big health insurance companies (and Hospitals) are only interested in "excessive" profits and have little concern over your well being. Thailand has health service problems too, private hospitals charging outrageous fees for very little service and Thai Gov. hospitals are under staffed and the health service is generally poor. What to do?

eSolar's First 5 MW CSP Power Plant , California

A solar power tower is a solar power plant that uses fields of hundreds of mirrors to focus sunlight on a boiler to produce electricity. This new power plant has two towers and 24,000 mirrors and produces around 5 megawatts of power, enough to power about 4000 homes in areas near the Lancaster California power plant. ESolar has strong funding from the likes of Google and other large clean-tech focused venture capital firms. ESolar's new power plant is small scale, but an excellent demonstrat

Thrilla in Manila - Ali vs Frazier

The Thrilla in Manila is the third and final famous boxing match between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier for the Heavyweight Boxing Championship of the World, fought at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines on October 1, 1975.Both boxers battled each other into near incapacity, and Frazier's trainer determined he should stop the bout after the fourteenth round, so the decision went to Ali as a technical knockout (TKO). I watched this fight live VIA sattellite from Anchorage

The Hyperion Power Module

The Hyperion Power Module When you think of the Hyperion Power Module (HPM), you can discard much of what know about nuclear power. Hyperion is different. Think Big Battery… Like a battery, the HPM is a compact, transportable unit with no moving internal parts. It’s not to be opened once distributed from the factory. Once sited safely in its underground containment vessel, an HPM is monitored but does not require a battery of operational personnel.. It just quietly delivers safe, reli

Help Me Please

I use a online backup service called DropBox. I get 2 Gig of free storage. I am very happy with the service, the service makes a "dropbox" folder in your Home folder and you copy the stuff you want to backup online to the "dropbox" folder,   Then the Dropbox will sync your stuff to your online dropbox folder, works good, better than iDisk on MobileMe (Apple gonna get me saying that). Also, you can have a "Shared Folder" to share stuff with your buddies:)   Dropbox works with Windows, Mac

Hillary-Thai Women in Politics

S: There are a lot of young ladies here who might aspire to be the Hillary Clinton of Thailand someday.  What would be your advice to them? C: First, education is the best insurance policy to prepare you for whatever happens in the future; this goes for young men as well as young women, pursuing your education, challenging yourself. Preparing for the complexities of this new century that we're in. Second, if you're interested in going into politics, to expand your experiences beyond those th

Creeping Disasters

Boiling the Frog July 13, 2009 OP-ED COLUMNIST NY Times By PAUL KRUGMAN Is America on its way to becoming a boiled frog? I’m referring, of course, to the proverbial frog that, placed in a pot of cold water that is gradually heated, never realizes the danger it’s in and is boiled alive. Real frogs will, in fact, jump out of the pot — but never mind. The hypothetical boiled frog is a useful metaphor for a very real problem: the difficulty of responding to disasters that creep up on you

Ford Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV)

In 2011 Ford will offer a new battery-electric Focus sedan made in collaboration with Magna International. Now that most U.S. citizens live in urban settings, the idea of a primary or secondary car that never needs gasoline will have growing appeal. Although Nissan will have a head start with thousands of freeway-speed electric vehicles already in use by U.S. customers, Ford could catch-up if it offers the Focus EV for less than $30,000. The competition will boost revenues for Ford battery sup

CLEAN ENERGY BILL USA

As you can see (above) the USA is the "linch pin" country (democracy) in the struggle to reduce GHG emissions on the planet Earth. If the USA commits to GHG limits then China must follow or suffer condemnation from the rest of world.Reveiw of the recently passed (House) Clean Energy Bill. I'd call this an  middle of road critique."We cannot kill the good in search of the perfect. As Jane Goodall observed, “Lasting change is a series of compromises. And compromise is all right, as long your value
