Obama is holding his own pretty well, an amazing man. It seems big health insurance companies (and Hospitals) are only interested in "excessive" profits and have little concern over your well being. Thailand has health service problems too, private hospitals charging outrageous fees for very little service and Thai Gov. hospitals are under staffed and the health service is generally poor. What to do?

Nicky, basic health care is free at Thai Gov. hospitals. However, if you're really sick many Thais choose the private hospitals which there seems to be no regulation on how much they can charge. Recently, a woman had to go the emergency room at a Thai private hospital, she ended up with a bill of 3 million Baht for a few days stay. Go figure.

Real Health Insurance lets you choose your doctor and the hospital where you will receive treatment.

I don't know much about private health insurance in Thailand.

Jerry, I remember back 70's, I was part owner of business, we had private health insurance plan (for 6 persons) that paid for medical & dental. The health insurance cost about 70 dollars a month per person, never a problem, insurance alway paid. Then Ronald Reagan got elected and we had "deregulation" "Free the private sector from Big Government" everything went down hill since then.

Republicans still believe in the myth fed mostly by Fox News that competition among private insurance companies will drive down healthcare costs. What they don't know is - their healthcare expenses have already been subsidized by the "Big Government" in one form or another. It's an absurd idea to put your health entirely in hands of an entity whose sole motivation is to maximize profits.
