I have spent the last month travelling from north to south Vietnam and tomorrow I fly to Bangkok to spend 2 weeks in Thailand. I haven't had as much fun travelling since I first travelled through Thailand 2 years ago. Vietnam and Thailand are my two favorite places to travel. The terrific food, interesting culture, and friendly people make travelling so rewarding in both countries.

I am sad to leave Vietnam, but I look forward to seeing my friends in Thailand.

See you soon,

FL

A whole month in Vietnam. Excellent. I agree -- it's absolutely one of my favourite places to travel, although I never made it farther north than Muine. I was addicted to Pho Bo and Pho Ga. Ate it every day. Hope you have an equally great time in Thailand!

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. For those who were wondering, I did the typical backpacker route from North to South. I spent 2 nights in Hanoi, 1 night in Ha Long Bay, 2 nights in Hue, 5 nights in Hoi An, 5 nights in Nha Trang, 6 nights in Ho Chi Minh City, and 1 night in the Mekong Delta (Con Tho City).

Its hard to say what was my favorite spot. Some of the highlights of my trip included a boat cruise around Ha Long Bay, a tour of the DMZ area, riding a bicycle to Cau Dau beach near Hoi An, a boat cruise of the Mekong Delta, singing Karaoke with locals in Ho Chi Minh city, and watching girls in their pretty Ao Dais ride their bicycle or motorcycle to work/school.

I would highly recommend to anyone to travel in Vietnam. There is something for everyone, be it culture, partying, or natural beauty...and it is so cheap! Really nice hotels with air conditioning/satellite TV/hot water are less than $10 USD throughout Vietnam. A bowl of Pho is less than $1 USD. A large bottle of water is about $0.4 USD. Microbrew (bia hoi) is about $2.1 USD/litre. A large bottle of Saigon beer is $1 USD. An "open tour" bus ticket from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City is $22 USD! Short motorcycle/Cyclo/taxi rides are $0.6-1.0 USD. Internet is $0.25 - 1.0 USD/hour. Anyways, you probably get my point. Vietnam is so affordable that even English teachers in Thailand can afford to go :P I met some retired people that were collecting pensions. They said that their bank accounts actually increase when they spend the winters in Vietnam.

If you have any more questions about travelling Vietnam, I would be glad to answer them.
