Advice sought

Does anyone know whether one could sign up on a temporary (a week or two) wireless contract in Bangkok?

If so, which company offers this service?

Furthermore, what has been your experience about its service - I mean does it break down a lot?

Thanks for any advice.

I doubt it very much. Most contracts that have anything to do with internet / phones are 1 year, and you either have to have a Thai guarantee, or a work permit.

If you can handle slower speeds, I would say your best bet would be to get an unlimeted 1 month dial up package from any 7/11.

i don't know about temporary service. if anything you can buy the device here and pay for one month's service. the wireless devices run from about 5000 baht to 10,000 baht. the lower the price, the slower the speed. month service charges are around 800 baht per month.

i use one at the condo and another one at the bar. i have the lower priced ones but the speed suits my needs. they use the cellular bands and are nothing but SIM cards installed into a device that goes into the USB port on your laptop. you can make calls and send SMS messages through your computer.

service is pretty good. during peak hours when cellular phones are in use the speed drops a bit.

i have only experienced two outages when the fiber optic cables were severed during some construction.

bear in mind that some services will not work in all parts of thailand. mine works everywhere but bkk.

my service is through CAT. I think AIS has the service in BKK.

Contact AIS shop, or dial their phone service.

1. we buy an internet sim card. The card might cost about 300 baht

2. And then you consult them which package is best for you.

You must have a mobile phone which can be used as a modem.
