Don't know if this was ever shown in Thailand, but I remember always making sure I was in front of TV to watch Monkey (or Monkey Magic) when I was about 14. It was a dubbed version of a Japanese show 'Saiyuki' which was in turn based on a Chinese novel called Journey to the West.It has recently been resurrected by Jamie Hewlett, the UK comic book artist behind Tank Girl, and who also formed Goriilaz with Damon Albarn. He has rewritten the novel as an opera which looks amazing. It premiered in Manchester last year and has now played in the US and (I think ) China...I have posted 4 clips; the original intro to Monkey from about 79, a great fight between Monkey and Pigsy, a short film Hewlett has produced based on the opera, and a little promo video of the opera itself...The Journey to the West theme was also used by Hewlett to produce the BBC Olympic promo video...

Great show, that takes me back!

Friday evenings as far as i can recall?

I remember seeing one episode when Monkey took a slash up against a pillar, couldn't believe it on tea time tv.

I must look for it on YouTube!

I LOVED Monkey when I was a kid. All my friends did.

We used to run around hitting each other with sticks and speaking cod-Japanese. There were never any arguments about who wanted to be Monkey - we had a friend who looked just like a monkey... so he got to be the hero in every game.

That opera looked incredible.

Thanks for posting Iain.
