On Labour Day 1st of may 2009 in Berlin 440 police men and a unknown number of citizens had been injured.
Thousands of people were out on the street - some marching peacefully, some having party, and some fighting. Straight anarchists and dumb muppets came together to fight against 7000 cops.
Same procedure as every year: Some idiots burn down cars and waste containers and smash shop windows. Thereupon the police starts with surrounding randomly some involved or noninvolved demonstrants and uses batons, pepper spray and water cannons while the demonstrants fight back with bottles and stones. The hard core of the scene comes with molotow cocktails. The polive is said to be very brutal. Volunteers try to calm down police violence by speaking to the most brutal ones and filming with cameras and mobiles.

My girl encouraged me to post that journal. She said, she wants people to know that not only Thai people rage against the system. OK, here we are ...

The teaser-graphic is made by me, but I didn't shoot the pics. Since I live 150 meters away from the absolute hot-spot of the main fights I decided not leave the house that day ... hoping nobody would happen to burn down the whole street ;-)

Hi my berlin.

I am so gratefull you show these pictures overhere. In every country we have radalism, protesters against everything, only to make chaos.

Germany is democratic country now, without daught. I live in Thailand now long time. I love the country, the culture and the people. The damage these red and yellow chaots do to their country, they are too stupid to understand.

Thailand is a democratic country too. If they want to change the goverment, soon are new votes, than they can dicide by voting...but that, they dondt want....they want to make chaos.

Thanks to the new Prime-Minister. We like him. Hope he his succesfulll furthermore.

Hi my berlin :-)

I dont understand why Germany have these violence as a traditional ?? You told that those young people would come out on street every May Day since 1980's. Or.. The country set May Day of every year as a 'release stresses' day for young european ??? ( who havent got a chance to come to thailand yet lolz)

By the way, I like pluggy's comment.

Cheers,

I would not mess with Berlin police - they can be scary f**kers when they want!! The May Day thing is pretty common pan Europe but a few places seem to always have trouble. The one we organise in Glasgow is always more of a carnival atmosphere (bar the odd attack on Gap or McScumbags) and usually finishes with a party in one of the parks!!

usually german police will ask you first if you wish to be beaten, but if you dont answer politely they will kick your ass. No violence would be a good thing, but there should also be a zero tolerance rule against those idiots. Three warnings are enough to go away. The mob is looking for a riot and they get it. At least it keeps the police forces in good shape. And they are pretty f**ked up if they get teased and I would not want to mess with them, because in Berlin there are only the best working during the May Day. But it wont be long until we will have a couple of dead to report because it is getting more and more violent every year.

Kus, I think it's indeed a kind of "'release stresses' day for young european" :-) The stress that needs release assumedly comes from different sources of personal and political frustration. On the other hand this day is a good chance for the state authorities to show it's power. We had a rather bloody age of (home made) terrorism in Germany in the seventies. All police power will do what they can to prevent a renaissance. Brutal approach is supposed to be determent
