Selfish vs Selfless

I read a magazine and found this two words...

In a column, the interviewee said 'my biggest challenge now is balancing being selfish and selfless'

It made me think about something

---------------------

for myself, I know exactly about meaning of these 2 words... and never want to know more than that...

somehow, because i'm not alone in the universe, I wonder how to make balance between them...

some said 'i'm selfish'

some said 'i'm selfless'

I couldn't serve people's opinions/wants... but I just could serve mine...

I try to make things all good... not because of you, but myself...

it's my statement...

it seems to be selfish?!

yes, it would if you said so... :)

pls don't be confused... I just want to think out loud... about my tiny piece of thoughts...

ps. so sad... my laptop is (nearly) dead now... because of spywares... trying to save her life... but not so sure I am capable... now I use my mobile for TF :(

Interesting this game of words you have presented here. You know? no matter what, the key word here is "self". It is with us since the beginning our existence, still here and for sure will be there tomorrow too. Hopefully one day we can learn to live more for other things and less for ourselves. Other things, just simple things in life.

PS. Too bad I'm not in Thailand to help you with laptop, hope you can get it fixed soon.

Chris:)

No, not selfish. I think you have the right idea. Expecting *others* to serve one's own opinions/wants would be selfish.

On the humorous side, Ambrose Bierce cynically defined "selfish" as "devoid of consideration for the selfishness of others."

we are the "product" of our back ground, i guess to respect ours toughts it s the most important.

evryone should do it in own way, without to compare who is right and who is wrong.

essencially nobody it s 100% selfish or 100% selfless, inside evry person it exists instinct of survive and love ...up to us to use one or another

Its funny, we always want more, then when we have it, we want something else, but its funny... when u just do something for someone else, it feels so much better than doing more for yourself, many people's happiest moments are doing something for someone.

W selfish/selfless life is about balance isnt it? There are times where you have to be one or the other. The trick is finding the balance.

"I couldn't serve people's opinions/wants... but I just could serve mine...

It comes down to motivation. In both of the above statements, the motivation is self.

True compassion starts when we realise the emptiness of self,

then we are free to do things simply to make others happy.

something nice in there :)

offcourse not related to the SELF workd and that is that your sense of taking ur LAPTOP is cute when you say

" trying to save her life... but not so sure I am capable "

thats "her" refrered to laptop is cute :)

andon>> yep...no matter what, the key word here is "self"... as "self" is the source of everything... either being selfish or selfless.... we choose it... and i hope we all can learn to live peacefully... ps. thank you... i'm trying... i run the anti-virus program... but, it automatically shuts itself down every 15 mintues!!!!

Rob>> "Expecting *others* to serve one's own opinions/wants would be selfish".... but somehow, if i dont serve the other's opinions/wants, i would be blamed to be selfish too... because i'm careless...so..it depends which angle you look... inside out or outside in... : )

mediterranean>> agree, nobody is 100% selfish or 100% selfless... the point how many % or how often for each in routine...

velvet>> agree... "we always want more, then when we have it, we want something else"... and things we want are changing from time to time... so the circle would be last for life... and also agree for this too "when u just do something for someone else, it feels so much better than doing more for yourself"... it's like to fulfill the deep desire in the heart... i think

PJack>> agree and i got your point... for myself, i never avoid examining my life... i know myself... decide who i want to be and become that person for long... the point for this... if i'm not wrong... it's about oneself (or myself)... as i said, i'm not alone in the universe, i cant avoid being examined by the others too...

PeeMarc>> agree : )

digitalcat>> it is the hradest part... to find balance : ) ... not only for ourselves... but also the other's'

for my laptop, after running anti-virus... as said, automatically shuts down every 15 mins (when i am away from her)... but last time i spent 40 mintues with her! and now i think it's recovered!!! the warning (your computer is infected by spyware) on my desktop is disappeared... now i'm trying to run anti virus on specific location again to make sure...yeh! yeh!

oh!! i didnt visit the porn site na (errrr...i mean this time!) 5555

Neo>> good observation, indeed... and cant agree with you more... and i insist... the motivation comes from one's self... as the beginning... in order to get the true compassion, that means you think you get 'enough' or 'sufficient' for yourself... and you are ready to devote yourself to the others...

no right or wrong... just various perspectives
