20090301-illamasqua.jpgBritain’s up-and-coming Illamasqua launched in Selfridges, London in September 2008 and has since rolled out to a limited number of stores across the UK and online click here to see their online store Developed by professional makeup artists and produced by Kryolan, Illamasqua is fast becoming a MAC rival, and perhaps it’s no coincidence that their flagship concession is right next to MAC in Selfridges, London. Like MAC does, they pay special attention to professional MUAs, giving them a generous 40% discount.I am very lucky to be accepted into their professional program and get my 40% discount, just like I already have with MAC but with MAC they charge $35usd per year to become their professional artist discount member with the same 40% off all their products except few of their line such as Viva La Glam because part of the proceed goes to HIV AIDS foundation. While Illamasqua offers the same discount for professional artist members but it is totally free membership exclusively for professional makeup artist who accepted/selected by Illamasqua. Right now their products are sold in the UK, they will be launching their product line in the US as well (at flagship Sephora stores here in the US on July 31st 2009). Illamasqua’s tag line is “makeup for your alter ego,” and they break the brand down into four stories:1920’s Berlin

Noir

Fantasy and Romance

Sirens (limited edition)

The brand has a slightly dark, naughty feel to it, and I would have so loved to have been in the meeting room when they came up with the names for the products (slut, moan, sadist anyone?!). It’s all about bringing out that sexy alter ego.

"Illamasqua is the product of a heady mix of influences. Its roots stem from the dark and illicit 1920s club scene and combines a rich heritage in the manufacture of make-up for film and theatre. It also takes inspiration from members of the ‘alternative scenes’ for whom self-expression is paramount. Alternative cultures have always dared to be dramatic. They have an emotional attachment to making up. It’s an expression of their darker side, a release for their alter ego.

Illamasqua is for the bolder person hiding inside all of us. It is an act and an attitude. A symbol of tolerance. A celebration of idiosyncracies. A confident statement of self-ownership."

natural ~ if you find the perfect match foundation that will melt into your skin and look closest to your skin tone if not exact match, it will not make you look like ghost or ghostly look, try to have your face foundation match by any mac counter. and for eyeshadow you will need a good eye primer mac prep+prime eye or you can also use mac paint pot in painterly or bare study.

it will bring out the exact color of the eyeshadow and make it last longer on your lids, because eyelids can be pretty oily area to apply any kind of eyeshadow on (powder or creme) but as long as you prep your skin well moisturize etc and know your skin (oily, normal, dry or combo) you will get a hang of it.

so best way to match a foundation to your skin tone is to apply it on the back of your hand or on the side of your cheeks just above your jaw line, if the color blends well to your skin without looking ghostly or too dark for your skin then that is the color for you. if you know your skin undertone it will be easier to pick the right match =)

so good foundation and good eye primer =)
