This morning a friend of mine stopped me before I step in my office... she told me that our friend was crying a lot, she had argument with her mom. Actually, it was big fight lastnight.

I'm not good at making ppl calm down, I'm just a good listener.

I know about problem between her and her mom. I think her mom does love her, but the way she act told difference way.

This time small things came to be the bigger problem, since her mom pulled a knife and said she would kill her or her sons...

Well, I knew it, my grandfather did something like that when I was young... about 9 or 10 years old. It happened when I got back from my swimming class... but I can't remember the story...I just remember my grandfather was waving a knife and after that my swimming class was over...hrrr

OK back to my friend, I told her that her mom should see a doctor, I think it's all about hormones, she lost estrogen (Not sure) but her mood swing up and down like this, it's not cool.

I felt so bad about it... i didn't know yesterday they had problem like this, she called me told me about activity on Saturday with strange voice tone, i didn't realize, i just knew it was strange but I was on the way to work I had to be on air in 20 mins.

If I knew I would take her and her son out from that situation (Her husband was away) . I might let them stay at my place or I stay with them at hotel.

If we love someone, why don't we show them. Why do we need to act differently? ... no answer needed.. I know the feeling.

Yes mood-swings come with aging. The best way is stay active..enroll a class of something, go to a gym and eat healthy.. Get hormones plaster or tablets or do something, woman.

Oh it's all so dramatic!

I'm always amazed when adults act like this. Really! Kill your kids? What on earth was she thinking?

99.999999% it's just a ridiculous way of getting some attention. If my wife threatened my kids with a knife, I'd call the police...

Really amazed? I guess you don't know what they put on Thai television...

Call the cops and get the kids out of there.

Thai soap operas are one of the biggest threats to Thailand becoming a developed nation. If people are taught to believe that highly dramatic outbursts are normal they will act that way. Some sociologists have even gone as far and say that it stunts emotional growth.

If this was anywhere outside of Thailand and someone, even a family member, pulled a knife on you, you call the cops, they get arrested, you don't speak to or see the person until they apologize for their behavior.

Actually, I'm trying to take Thai culture into account on that last bit. In reality, if any family member pulled a knife on me that would be the last contact I ever had with them. Ever! That is the sign of a mentally unbalanced person. Unless they get psychiatric help I have no desire to be anywhere near them.

Sure, put them in a hospital or whatever but that person would have to earn a tremendous amount of credibility that they had gotten better before I would ever be in the same room with them.

This is very much in line with the forum thread about shame. If a parent ever pulled a weapon a child, in most normal families, the parent would be completely shunned by the rest of the family. Who wants to be around someone who threatens to kill their own child?

Nueng, I'm sorry but there are women all over the world who go through menopause without threatening to kill their children. Her mother is mentally unbalanced and should seek proper psychological treatment.

may be it's not about Menopause, my friend's mom is 70++ years old...or it's eldery mental problem, cuz my grandfather waved a knif when he was that age, and a friend of mine said her grandfather behavior changed when he get old... he attacked every member included his beloved wife. So they had to send him to check, doctor gave some medicine to calm him down.

My grandfather went to hospital after that, not sure, it's about some illness...

I told my friend to take her mother check her mental heath... cuz, it's quite serious, i'm sure it will happen again.

A friend of mine a few years back threatened to hurt his grandparents when he freaked out cos he didn't his own way over something. I could see his behaviour change prior to this and it was like waiting for a bubble to burst. He was getting down in the dumps about how he deserves more from life (even though he didn't really work for it) then he would be high on life the next few hours about how he's got this amazing business idea and yada yada yada.

So, one day he lost his mind over something that didn't go his way, threatened to hurt his family. His brother called the police and they took him to the hospital. They diagnosed him with bipolar and he subsequently got shunned by his family. To this day he tries to get into the house so he can steal stuff then pretend he never did. Perhaps another pitch for attention.

So yea, professional help is needed for this lady. It's one thing being cooky and crazy when you get old, but pulling a knife is waaaay over the line.
