What are the benefits of eating a orange?

An orange is one of nature's \"Power Fruits\". Adding an orange to your diet every day can have amazing benefits

1. Studies have shown that the pectin present in oranges can help to suppress appetite for up to four hours after eating. This means that oranges are an excellent food for dieters.

2. Oranges help to activate the body's own detoxification process and even the skin and zest of this fruit contain anti-oxidants which help to transport oxygen around the body and protect the skin from free radicals which cause signs of aging. In other words, eating oranges can help to keep the wrinkles away.

3. Recent research also suggests that oranges contain a natural skin cancer fighting chemical. This isn't an alternative to using sunscreens, but it does help.

4. Oranges are an excellent source of dietary fiber and can be added to salads. Slices of orange can really liven up a boring salad, especially if you are watching your weight.

5. Tests have shown that oranges contain large quantities of citrus lumonoids which are thought to give some protection from cancers of the mouth, skin, lung, breast, stomach and colon. Limonoids have also been shown to reduce cholesterol levels in human cells.

6. Oranges are a good source of vitamin B folate which helps to prevent birth defects and protects the heart.

7. One orange provides more than 7% of the daily requirement of potassium which is needed to keep the fluid levels within the body in proper balance.

8. An orange is a real powerhouse of phytochemicals which may help to prevent age related illness. Phytochemicals are plant chemicals that appear to offer no nutritional benefit for the body, but combine together to give protection to cells. This is already seen in plants and scientists believe that the same effect occurs in human cells.

9. Oranges contain water soluble pectin which helps to reduce blood cholesterol levels.

10. An average sized orange contains approximately 50mg of vitamin C, which is around two thirds of our daily requirement. Vitamin C helps with wound healing and resistance to disease.

11. According to a study in Finland, women who ate oranges regularly had 50% less risk of heart disease compared to those who didn't eat them regularly. This is thought to be because the flavanoids in this fruit are helping to protect the cells.

Kira doesn't like to eat oranges. But her mom keeps offer/ask if she wants some. She talked to her mom that she doesn't like the seeds .. so she doesn't eat oranges.

I wanna try ^^ what's it called in thai though... ^^? my dict says it's orange's belly button lol

yes "Navel" does mean that and also "related to seafaring". I do not know if Navel Oranges are in Thailand; maybe another member knows - and also the Thai name.... Then your Mom might be grateful for me finding an orange that her little girl likes! ;-)

Danno, please don't give language lessons when your own is so poor.

Navel is belly button

Naval refers to seafaring.

Stamash IS correct on the spelling ... he is excellent using his spell-checker

I was thinking about the confusion that could occur because of pronunciation (navel and naval are the same - even in his Wee Land):P

so as not to have Iain high-jack Kira's blog --- back to The Orange ---

the bottom of Navel orange does look a bit like a belly button; therefore its name

Sorry wee man, I don't need a spell checker. Proficiency levels in my own language are well above adequate

but you need a wee string to pull; the one you have is much too easy!

now don't hurt yourself patting your back

"Navel" oranges don't have anything to do with a belly button or else. This kind of oranges first was grown in Brasil and can be distinguished from other kinds very easily because they have a second fruit inside (mainly without peel and much smaller). Nowadays, they are very common and in fact there are many of them who are (at least nearly) seedless.
