Tomb Raider in ANGKOR WAT
Angkor Wat
It all started from one of my friends asking me, "Have you ever been to the world's seven wonders?" Then before I knew, I was packing my bags on Wednesday morning - 2 hours before the flight to Siem Reap, Cambodia, visiting one of the world's seven wonder - ANGKOR WAT. Looking from the plane, there are fields everywhere. None of the civilized structure to be seen. Then, the groups of hotels clustered in the middle. The flight is quite short. The first breath blew dusty smelly air in my face. All the streets are in reddish path. Most people are on the bicycle or motorbike with fews cars occopied by foreigners.

It was an amazing, tiring, excited, fun 3 days. My friends decided to come by bus, they left at 7 am and arrived at 9.30 pm. I got there by 3 pm and start wondering if I'd be left alone in the middle of Khmer??
(TRAVEL CHOICES: 1. Going by bus costs 300-500 baht person - travel time: 10-15 hrs in bus seats plus the bus will wait for everyone to filled up the car before it leave. At some point where there's weight limits on the bridge, everyone would have to get off the bus, walk across the bridge before reentering at the end of the bridge. The streets are old-style street ; u should expect bumpy ride. 2. private car costs 1000-2000 baht per car - travel time 8-12 hrs in a camry. More comfy and shorten the time plus u can stop whenever u need to. 3. Going by plane costs 6500-10000 per person - takes 1-3 hrs flight.)
Tomb Raider? LoL
The thought actually scare me a bit. I'm literally in the middle of nowhere with lots of fields, farmers and cows. Imagine this: there's no ATM machine in this city!!! Most of the hotels and places doesn't accept credit cards. And people use US Dollars in stead of their currency. (Why? cos if u change all ur money to Cambodian reel.....you'd end up carrying a huge stacks of money. What I learned - Don't take Thai baht to use there. The exchange rate in Cambodia is ridiculous; 45 baht = 1 dollar. It's better to take US dollars and bring visa or mastercard.)
The steepest and smallest 37 steps to heavens. The higher you go up, the smaller the steps and harder to go. You have no idea how freaky these stairs are..
And now u must think that things must be cheaper than Thailand. Not at all, everything costs more for at least 30%. A can of Coke for $1, local food starts from $3-5, a can of beer for $2.50. Even the hotel cost more. Besides the rating for 4 stars hotel turn out to be more like 3 stars hotel in Thailand. Also the visa, Cambodian charge visa $20 or 1000 baht on arrival. Then another $25 on departure. (HOTEL ADVICE: pick the one that accepts visa/ mastercard. If you don't wanna take your chance, get there and look for the one you like. So many hotels and most of them are vacant. Many guesthouses start from $4-5 per night - better see it before decide to stay.)

Then I spent 2 full days on hiking, climbing rocks and small-steep steps in Angkor Wat. Not recommend anyone who physically challenge, afraid of heights or has heart conditions to go there. There's no proper hospital and most of the magnificent view can be seen from the top. So you must climb, hike and walk to get to the top to see the best of it. Oh...and just in case the rock starts falling down and you might have to run for life. LoL
EXPENSE TIPS: Accommodation + Transportation + Visa (Thailand and Cambodian) + food + Souvenirs + tips + Temple Pass (multi day pass $40 for 3 days is cheaper than one day pass $20 if you want to do more than one day temple tours) ALSO : bring 2 one- inch photo; one for the visa, another for the multiday pass.
Being Funny...so dark in there...I might fall down...
And one last thing, You will be constantly attack by souvenir sellers in Andkor wat. Especially if you are Caucasian (white), they love you and will try their best to get $$ from ur pockets by selling water, t-shirts, etc to u. They will surrounded you the minute you walk out of the car and also before you leave. Worse is when you decide to buy one, more sellers come to you. And there will be like this every places you visit in Cambodia.
