i have been eating barries, the kind that grow well on straws.

they are tasteless which is strange because early season strawberries usually taste the best.

this time, they are tasteless and almost give no fragrance.

yes, that sweet, innocent fragrance that no other kinds of berry can be compared.

and i asked myself...what's the point of eating them...when they give no pleasure to my teast buds and give no fragrance to my senses.

B L E H !

ps. for raspberry, thebest way to eat them is to stand beside the raspbarry bushes, pick them and eat them right away. son't wash, don't soak...they'll become tasteless too!

my mother has a picture of me as a young child (in diapers still) sitting in a strawberry patch with my hands and face covered with the sweet red juices of the berry...if i remember correctly, i think i even have it in my hair.

Jane the strawberries you were eating were most probably from California: big, and usually tasteless :( They have only been around the last couple of years up here... big strawberries all winter long, never used to get them. Most probably some genetic engineering going on.

Once in a while a basket of them tastes good, but generally big strawberries don't have as much flavour as little strawberries. The best are summer strawberries grown locally! You don't get those until July in Ontario, not sure about where you are.

Come to Toronto in July! We can go strawberry picking with Bobby and Holm :P:D
