101 Great Things about Living in Thailand

Question

While I have sometimes found the forum about the protests etc interesting and sometimes informative, I am getting really tired and bored with so much negative **** about the country and people, and sometimes the hatred in words expressed.... not just in forums... but in day to day life here too.

Sure, I have been as guilty of being negative myself and saying things from my own anger or frustration that I later come to regret.

I also just had a good buddy, who has lived here 6 years, get so affected by all the **** lately that he has left and gone back to him home country.

In the end, being negative just draws more negative and focuses attention away for the many, many wonderful things this country and people have. As an expat living here and in Asia for many years, Thailand is my home of choice. I still cant think of a better country (for me) in which to live.

So please, if you have something good to say about living here, or a story to tell, put it here. (or are dramatic and negative forums more popular?

1. Where else would I find better or more delicious food than Thailand? If I left, I would miss all my favourite dishes that I can get anywhere on the street or small restaurant.

2. I love the Thai sense of sanuk and people so easy to laugh.

3. If you live here for a while, you cannot avoid being touched deeply by 'nam jai' at some unexpected times.

I could go on and fill 101 reasons myself but...

whats yours?

Monobrow idiots living heavens.

There have been changes according to new data available from the W.H.O. (Word Hair Organisation)

Not as much as it used to be though. Beauty salons for men have been making huge strides forward in the last 10-15 years. The UK Male Grooming League have trained air stylists, massage girls have more assistance and awareness of European, Mediterranean and Arabian eye-bush concerns than ever before, and legislation in the home countries of tourists who visit Thailand, such as the UK Threading and plucking Offenses Act 2003, means that perpetrators can be prosecuted in their home country if identified as having an 'enlarged eye brow bush' while on 'holiday'.

Of course, one mono-browistical offense is one too many, but we will never attain that ideal state. And a nummber of Farang men and some Indian and Middle Eastern women who abused eye-brow lengths in Thailand now have either been returned to their own countries or have been offered the chance of re-education in beauty salons and gogo bars across Sukhumvit, so it means the beauty salon and massage girls know what areas to target with tweezers, wax and an awareness package to empower the unfortunate souls with hair every where.

And to a great extent, the ex pat communities in areas renowned for all sorts of facial hair, especially mono-brows, are indirectly providing the first source of information on suspicious activity by coming forward for a plucking

So, if you look at the situation in, say, 1995, and the situation now, perhaps the term 'heaven' or even 'haven' is no longer as appropriate outside Sukhumvit Soi 3 of course

Maybe 'not so great'

Went into Central yesterday and visited Marks and Spencers. Looking at a pair of cargo pants and found that for some reason they left the UK price tag on the pants: 15 GBP. The price in baht: 1495. Talk about a markup!

Either that or the exchange rate as gone to hell
