FarangFarang
A nice little writeup on the various establishments calling Soi 11 their home. EB and Charlie Brown's gets a pretty good amount of digital ink in Stickman's weekly column. Worth reading. I've always been a fan of Soi 11 going back many years. President Solitaire at the top of the soi is my favorite Bangkok hotel. It's a perfect combination of quality and price. This last trip, I think we paid about $62 USD a night. In the past the rates have been as high as $100 USD. A lot of new stuff going up there as well. I've heard from a couple of sources that the businesses on Soi 11 work together rather than trying to compete which is why they seem to be doing well when other sois seem to get less foot traffic these days. IMHO, Soi 11 is one of the few things going well on lower-Suk. If only some of the other sois would follow suit :-)
Admin_2
I agree that soi 11 has got the goods. I kind of glanced over stick's weekly about soi 11, but it seemed like he only focused on Charlie Browns great drinks with little or nothing about the food. I used to go there for the food as I'm not a huge fan of margaritas or sangria. The food kicked the crap out of Sunset's food, yet he made it seem like Sunset's food was better than CB's. True but I think anything that helps establish Soi 11 as a place for a good meal, clubbing, or even chilling out helps the entire soi. I think they would kill it if they could somehow get all of the street vendors off of the streets on Soi 11 though. Just one soi without all of the crap on Sukhumvit. I think high-end tourists and expats (as well as many Thais) would flock there if they could pull that off.
English_Bob
Stickman and I got together last Tuesday for this column. We had a wander up the street and I filled him in on what's going on. He's always been very fair to me, publicising events and promotions for me free of charge. As regards Sunrise food over CB's, he's entitled to his opinion... And his opinion is that the food of a major advertiser on his site is better than the food of someone who has never given him a dime... (lol). He also believes that Duke's burger is the best burger in Bangkok... And that place is owned by the same person that owns Sunrise. He treads a fine line. He always writes something positive about Charley Brown's, but at the same time, he risks angering a major sponsor. I always make sure he doesn't get himself in trouble - I don't want to mess with his rice bowl. Soi 11 is absolutely the place to party these days - I like it so much I moved onto the soi! What with Cheap Charlies Soi, all the great restaurants and pubs and then the nightclubs, it's got everything, but without that sleaziness of lower sois. You can take a date to Soi 11 without fear of embarrassing her.

It's always a safe bet and so many places people can grab a good bite of different farang foods (Japanese, Mexican, German, Australian, Spanish tapas, etc). Admin_2
I think there is also some Thai food on that soi as well and since when is Japanese a farang food?
English_Bob
A new place opened last night. It's called Marshmellow and is located on the corner where Soi 11 turns left towards QBar - opposite the block where Funhouse used to be. It's been a cursed spot for two businesses who tried to open nightclubs. Divas tried to be a Las Vegas show bar with dancing girls in feathered headresses. Then the horribly named Welfare opened, catering for Russians for about 8 months. Finally someone has opened the right place - it' s like an upmarket cafe/winebar. I believe they will have an oyster bar, reasonably-volumed music. It looks very nice, with an outdoor seating area on all three sides. It's owned by Coffee (the girl behind Chilli Culture) and Fred Jungo (ex Entertainment director from Bed Supperclub). I'm sure it'll do very well, but it'll eat into Oskars' business for sure. English_Bob
Here's their blurb.... Description Marshmallow is a cafe, bar and restaurant located in the heart of the city's most exciting and best nightlife area. We have enthusiastically created a unique and sophisticated social culture spot in the heart of the growing Bangkok bar scene. Blended wood-based interior as well as an extensive all-around terrace adds a warm, friendly and relaxed atmosphere in the busy Sukhumvit soi 11. We are proudly introducing affordable Signature drinks, classic cocktails as well as exclusive sea inspired dishes, daily fresh imported oysters, home-made sweets and original all-day breakfasts complementing our premium house pours menu from 10AM until 1AM from Monday to Sunday. Marshmallow's first motivation is to make you feel like it's your second home – a place to chill and hang-out with friends over a nice light meal or two accompanied by a tailored-selection of white or red wines. On the music side, an original and eclectic fine-tuned soft playlist will ease your senses throughout the evening. One thing's for sure, music will only be a light background through your blissful night out, so you can focus on the mingle part only without having to speak louder. We treat each guest with a warm welcome, and aim to provide a high level of service. The little touches and details make the real difference on your experience and we know it. FarangFarang
Oh, that corner. I don't know how many different clubs that has been over the years :-) There was a TF event there several years ago when they had the coyote dancers. SKYWARRIOR
While in BKK I stayed on Soi 11 and for a first timer newbie in Thailand, it was a great place to stay. I stayed in Business Park Inn which has a great little 24 hr cafe, and the Solitaire, which was a nice step up from the aforementioned hotel. Loved the street scene, clubs and restaurants there, good times.

Awesome to let a newbie loose in the LOS, lol. Remember how you felt that day?

Admin_2
Gonna see your girls of course. Coming with Don this time? Before you make any huge life changes (like buying a bar on some island) PLEASE come and ask for advice here so that we can all shoot you down! SKYWARRIOR
Haha!! I have lots of bad ideas like the island bar. Actually I'm going into the manufacturing base and look for design engineering work, or consulting. But first and foremost going to travel up north to Chang Mai, and then perhaps take the train down south along the coast to Phuket/Krabi. Don & Mee are returning also, but not at the same time. Cant wait to return!!
SKYWARRIOR
Letter to a men's helpline... Hi Bob, I really need your advice on a serious problem: I have suspected for some time now that my wife has been cheating on me. The usual signs: if the phone rings and I answer, the caller hangs up; she goes out with the girls a lot. I try to stay awake to look out for her when she comes home but I usually fall asleep. Anyway last night about midnight I hid in the shed behind the boat. When she came home she got out of someone's car buttoning her blouse, then she took her panties out of her purse and slipped them on. It was at that moment crouched behind the boat that I noticed a hairline crack in the outboard engine mounting bracket. Is that something I can weld or do I need to replace the whole bracket kaunitz
