marky12345
Why do farang expats look down their noses at farang tourists for going to bars and chasing girls when in 99% of cases this is exactly what they came to Thailand for in the first place. 0 Ngairo
So what we know is Princess hasn't meet the right man.....so there was a result after all.....For god's sake you lot....don't go introducing her to any more god damm fat arse drunken farangs that think they have to pay her...... Tsk...when will you boys learn that just because I do not care about deflating your egos which in turn, leads to your feelings of impotency and inadequacy, it doesn't mean that I'm bitter? There goes another ASSumption...let me sum it up shall I? Princess doesn't think we're a bunch of hot studs therefore she must be an ugly old maid who can't get laid. Sweet. Exactly the kind of criteria that helped me make my "generalisation" Never said you were bitter....and I have no feelings....that's just stories once again.... Out of your generalisation....you haven't found a guy (I'm assuming)....just offering to help.... 0 zeusbheld
i dont agree that her comment was too broad a generalization as she qualified to death that it was her experience. however, the thread started with the claim that 99 percent of expats moved to thailand for the bar scene. i noticed neither you nor undercover seem to have a problem with THAT generalization, which was far broader. everyone on the f*cking planet is hypocritical at one time or another. congratulations, gentlemen. it's your time. Hey Zeus, I'm going to change your name to "Mr. Bandwidth." over 80 word per minute, very few typos... and i'm able to get work done at the same time.... who sez men cant multitask Since you seem to be trying to lump me into some club that I don't want to be a member of, allow me to clarify. My original post attempted to answer the guy's question, nothing more. yep. My follow-up post to Princess took issue with her statement for, as I noted, rhetorical reasons. I didn't question the original poster's "99%" number because it was obviously an exaggeration for rhetorical effect and he is asking a question, not making any inflammatory statement. However, I found Princess's statement, while understandable and sympathetic, a bit over the top precisely because of how she phrased it. am i the only one who noticed they're saying the same thing? and why is his "99 percent" sound byte not saying something inflammatory, just because he asks a question at the end? so if i say "99 percent of TF men are *******. why do they all squat to pee?" it's not inflammatory? As I tried to point out in my example about Albanians, qualifying a broad racial statement is not going to make it any less offensive and that's why it's a hot button issue for people. it's NOT a broad racial statement, it's a demographic statement. farrangs in bangkok are now a separate race from caucasians? and would you even notice if you were an albanian in albania and she posted her statement about farrangs in bkk on albaniafriends? get real, it offends you coz you're a farrang in bkk. we're a demographic not a race. If you say, "I've never met an Australian who wasn't a loud-mouthed drunken idiot", most people are going to parse that sentence as your having an extreme personal antipathy for Australians. And rightly so. And to say later that you are qualifying that statement by only including the Australians you've met is extremely disingenuous. I would imagine if you sat down in a room full of Australians and made that statement you would not be walking out of the place, but that's because all the Australians that I've met are.... ooops, never mind! fair enough, but if you're going to call her on it, you should call him on it. he said the same thing, and in no less inflammatory terms. I don't understand the furious attempts to defend her comment. At all. If a farang made a similar derogatory comment about Thai women, he would be mercilessly attacked as being a racist. firstly, when have i ever posted anything that *wasn't* furious, dont believe me then look at my furious defense of ipods. secondly, farangs CHOOSE to come to bangkok. with very few exceptions (offhand, dont' know any) we werent BORN here. i happen to agree with both the original poster, and princess, that more often than not, they come here because it's easier to get laid (although i dont agree with the original poster's 99 percent rhetoric, i find it considerably more inflammatory than princess'--he called me a sexpat when the real reason i moved here from manhattan was CHEAP RENT--does that make me a rentpat?). thirdly, i didnt find her post any more inflammatory than ... um... the numerous posts.... .um ..... where i said basically the same thing .... In any event, I know --- AND HAVE MET --- lots of nice farangs and lots of nice thai people. agree. and some of them are extremely sleazy, and some of the sleazy ones are even honest about it. god bless 'em all. regarding the original question, along the lines of what amst-man said, it's not sex tourists that i object to, it's the ones who act like idiots. never been treated shabbily by an expat anywhere (at least for being a tourist) i'm not any more obnoxious toward toursts than anyone else... N.B. I also think that there's way too many ad hominem attacks here. It's stupid and it's unfriendly and it stifles commentary. In my opinion. you're no fun anymore. 0 CiaranM
First of all, take a look at what some of the farangs come to BKK and do (expats and tourists alike). They run around chasing Thai women (a very embarassing sight for most onlookers), you'll often see them in girlie bars with their head stuck between a dancer's legs (and these same guys go home to a "holiday gf" or worse - bring the gf with them!), you might find them yelling noisily and making a nuisance of themselves in a bar, you might find them running around on the road in a drunk stupor, leaning out of tuk-tuks and howling like apes, walking around half-naked without taking a shower because they're 'in a warm climate', you might find them dragging a trophy gf around by the wrist and still being obnoxious and vulgar in her presence ...is it any wonder they get looked down upon? Secondly, from what I've seen, a lot of the expats here feel that they have one-up on the tourists because: they may speak some Thai, they know the best places to eat, they know how to get around the city, they know how to get no-strings sex without paying for it, they may have a Thai gf or wife (see notes above on trophy women), they're part of the expat community in BKK and so, have more friends, they manage to stick their head's between dancer's legs once in a a while but not as much as before so of course, they're better. They manage a 'sawadee krap' now and then - which has them convinced that they are indeed, Asians in a white man's body...is it really any wonder that they feel they have the moral high ground? Of allllllll the men I've met in Thailand, I could perhaps count on the fingers of my hands those that I consider decent and proper steady bf/ husband material. Disclaimer: If the cap fits, wear it. If not, don't bug me with indignant protesting. None of this is made up, I've seen every one of those things happen. well most of the ex-pats i know in thailand have come here because of work, not for chasing cheap easily available skirt. but then again most of them r working in professional, responsible, managerial type positions and don't have the time or energy to be spending it stuck in a girlie bars with their heads stuck between some girls legs. u might find it hard to believe, but getting up at 6.30 every morning and then spending all day banging ur head against a brick wall (something most ex-pats spend all day doing) doesn't exactly set u up for a night of debauchery in nana or cowboy .... except for tomorrow night obviously, but that's all kip and bobbyboy's fault. now why is it an embarrassing sight seeing farang ex-pats pursuing thai girls ?? living and working here who exactly do u expect us to date and go out with ?? as i'm sure i have mentioned once before maybe u should look at urself and the farang ex-pats that u know ... rather than tarring us all with the same brush !! 0 Undercover
I'm not offended because I'm a farang who dates Thai women, I'm offended by the inherent intellectual dishonesty herein. This is some really specious reasoning you are setting forth here. You get the point. Princess gets the point. You're both too smart NOT to get the point. To continue to insist that it's ok because farangs aren't a "race" is grossly disingenuous. Thais aren't a "race" either. So, to paraphrase Princess, is it OK for somebody to write "Of allllllll the women I've met in Thailand, I could perhaps count on the fingers of my hands those that I consider decent and proper steady GF/wife material." I am quite sure that comment would be correctly interpreted as being bitter, misognystic and racist by the body politic here. However, apparently the same standard doesn't apply in reverse. " Princess is expressing her disgust with a certain type of tourist with a very broad brush. I didn't put those words in her mouth. She put those words in her mouth and rather than admit that she made an intemperate comment, you and she are apparently going to argue this point ad infinitum. Let's look at the original poster's post: Why do farang expats look down their noses at farang tourists for going to bars and chasing girls when in 99% of cases this is exactly what they came to Thailand for in the first place. It is exactly one sentence long. It makes no moral judgments. It is emotionally neutral. And it is from somebody who a) doesn't live here and seems to be asking a sincere question. (And by the way, where I come from, chasing girls in and of itself is not considered to be intrinsically evil.) Princess's reply, by contrast (it's too long too quote in its entirety), was extremely long, extremely detailed, extremely broad and fairly hostile. It ends with Disclaimer: If the cap fits, wear it. If not, don't bug me with indignant protesting. None of this is made up, I've seen every one of those things happen. Which is another way of saying, "if what I say applies to you fine and if it doesn't, sod off I don't want to hear it." Personally, my biggest problem with Princess's post is that "disclaimer" because it seems to me to be an attempt to evade responsibility for what she is saying. Again, you can insist that this isn't racist all you want but if we substituted "Jew" or "Muslim", or "Indian" people would object and I think rightly so, not only to the content but even more to the tone. My comment about you being Mr. Bandwidth was not a compliment to your typing skills (because I type 100 WPM hehe) but more astonishment that you posted 16 replies to this topic in the space of a few hours, principally to reiterate the same point over and over. Your attitude seems to be that everyone on TF, if not every farang in Bangkok who is single, is a scumbag, except you, because you have a GF and are not seeking a date. Well, hello - this is a dating site. Most people are here looking for dates, be they Thai ladies or farang men, and many of them even want to have sex! Absolutely shocking! Call the Police! So the Thai ladies want to date the farang men and the farang men want to date the Thai ladies and they are meeting on a commercial dating site which was engineered for that purpose and many of the men and women have multiple sex partners and therefore, according to you, that means that... the farang men are "pin-dicked bugfuckers." Uhmmm, ok. If you say so. I think this makes you the Larry Elder of TF. (For the non-Americans, Larry Elder is a black radio talk show host in the USA who is famous for his diatribes about black people.) I don't know much but one thing I do know is that it takes two people to have any relationship, be it between a bargirl and a customer, two embittered TFers grudge-******* each other to piss off their respective partners, or Brad and Angelina. Blaming it all on one half of the people in the relationship isn't offensive - it's just stupid.

0 pr0nmaster
"like trying to get princess to backdown on any statement" should replace the commonly used saying "like trying to get blood from a stone" in tf lingo... 0 Princess
Firstly. Princess understands English. So you can address criticism to her directly. Secondly, my disclaimer was intended to deter white knights. If for example, you fit me description of a "sleazy man", and you still feel that you are on the moral high ground...take it up with me If on the other hand, you are a decent hard working farang, true to his gf/wife...don't bother me by claiming righteous indignation...I haven't said anything that isn't true. Maybe I do meet the wrong guys or maybe my bar is just that high. At any rate, I am speaking from my own experience and will not censor it. If all the cheese pizzas you tasted tasted like **** and you said "the cheese pizza's I've tasted taste like ****"...would that be an intemperate comment? Again, I speak from my experience and am not lumping all men into this category. I've met a sample of men, of said sample I only find 'x' number of men truly decent. And no...these are not necessarily guys I have dated or will ever date.

FYI, it isn't a matter of righteous indignation and sorry if that "bothers you." It's a matter of intellectual honesty. If you post imflamatory stuff, you ought to be willing to take the heat - from whomever. You don't get to choose who replies to you.
