Why do farang expats look down their noses at farang tourists for going to bars and chasing girls when in 99% of cases this is exactly what they came to Thailand for in the first place.

firstly, i dont see where "pretty decent human beings" and "sleazeball" are mutually exclusive. some of my best friends are sleazeballs (and black people love us, TM). i've met some interesting farang men here on TF and in bangkok in general, but only about one i'd leave in a locked room with my sister (if i had one).

secondly, if you mean to imply that farrang men in thailand are not that different in terms of innate character, basic raw material, than men elsewhere, that's fine. i agree.

ok zeus ... some of us got to work so i'll only respond to parts of it .... i would guess most of us (well i know i certainly do) behave differently depending on situations and circumstances. i kind of look upon TF as a virtual "pub" where u meet up with mates (and also some ppl who r not mates) and spout **** about all the important topics affecting the world today ... this forum being a prime example. and no i generally wouldn't behave in front of my daughter or mother the way i act in TF, but then again i wouldn't act in front of them the way i act/behave in a bar in ireland, england or where ever. strangely enough most of the stuff that gets the most attention on TF is what blokes talk about in bars, sex, birds, booze, drugs and what a pair of ***** bush and blair make. again stuff i wouldn't generally discuss with my daughter or mother in the same details or terms i would use in a bar.

and i was making the point that just over 1,000 is judged to be a big enough sample to predict an entire countries election results, then perhaps it isn't too fanciful to consider that perhaps a focus group of 300 would give a reasonable indication of the character of farang ex-pats in bkk. and thinking about it a random sample of 300 ex-pats in bkk should be reasonably representative .... make any sense to u ??
