zeusbheld
what's your prediction for who will turn out to be the best signing of the summer? you dont have to limit yourself to the premiership, up to you. my choices: BEST: ajax signing henk ten cate as manager from barca. ok i'll admit i'm biased any long time ajacoid has to be a little sad to see danny blind get bounced out but i think ten cate is ready, and rijkaard is the best manager out there at the moment IMO. as a bonus he brought gabri with him. that's a coup, players just plain don't go from barca to ajax, it goes the *other* way generally . grosso to inter on the cheap i think about 4MM. nice. duff for only 5MM gets an honorable mention. i think he will prove more than 5MM worth of player. ballack gets the other honorable mention. the price is right--free, although the salary is probably formidable. he'd be a great signing if the cheskeviks didn't already have a lot of less-than-blazing-fast, talented central middies. could end in tears. sheva will play well if mourinho finds a formation wherein the middies can feed hiim properly but he's too expensive to be a 'best signing' imo. he's gonna play too well to be a 'worst signing' imo. WORST: it's a tough call but i'll go with ibrahimovic to inter. how do you say 'vastly overrated' in italian? 25MM? come ON. fortunately for them they picked up crespo for a free loan (bet it goes permanent). dirk kuyt. whoa that's a gamble. he could turn out great or he could be absolutely putrid, most likely just invisible. he strikes me as a bit of a headcase, and i think his scoring ability is highly overrated. as an ajacoid i'm just glad they didnt take huntelaar. carrick gets an honorable mention. i think he's a good player but not 18.5MM good. chrispilok
I agree about Duff. I think he's a great player. They paid less for him than Wigan did for Emile Heskey. Liverpool got Jermaine, what's his name? Pennant? Apparentlly he does drugs or something but who cares? He's got mad skillz.
S123arpedon
Best signings... Van Nistelrooy to Real Madrid. The guy is a quality player and is already showing that with the goals he is scoring. With beckahm (when he is actually playing) providing the crosses into the box he will keep scoring for fun. Gudjohnson to Barca. Another quality player who i would have loved to have seen at Spurs when he left Bolton. Will provide some quality in a team which already overflowing with talent. Duff to Newcastle. 5 million quid. Cant really say much else... Worst signings... Sol to Portsmouth. The man has issues. He just cant seem to be honest about things and is mentally unstable. I thought the argentinians to West Ham was all paper talk but that was concrete stuff...maybe this is too...no matter how hard is it to believe or maybe its a sweetner in regards to a takeover bid but reading... wtf? dannyboy
maybe just a short term deal to get him into the swing of things of the premiership,he is still only young @ 17. i cant imagine the north american league being too taxing for him. S123arpedon
Would make sense to him to go to a bigger club. Man U and Chelsea were sniffing around him a while ago but all inquiries were rebuffed if i remember correctly...
dannyboy
if he went to chelsea OR man u , would he get a game? maybe a 6 month loan spell @ reading would give him some premiership experiance. DAN AGGER= FANTASTIC
S123arpedon
He would get more experience in getting games at Reading if the move materialised...he would also benefit from possible better training and coaching and playing/training with world class players. Anwyay, it will be interesting to see what happens with this rumour. I think Gonzalez will be a good singning for liverpool and at the moment Riise in the form he is in is like having a new signing...scored a couple of crackers this season already. dannyboy
Riise , playing well again. he owes liverpool anyway, they paid off the norwegian goverment so he didnt have to do national service a couple of years a go.
S123arpedon
I heard about that...I bet he was glad about not having to do any national service. If he keeps pl;aying well and scoring i might have to get him in my fantasy football team. Whats happening to Kewell? There were rumours of a bid from Spurs which i am glad didnt materialise. Cracking player when he was at Leeds but nothing from him for quite a few years now, suspect attitude too...
S123arpedon
I reckon the Argie boys down at West ham might not be such good signings. They are out of Europe at the first hurdle when many, including me thought they would be favourites with a couple of top class Argentinian players added to the squad but it looks to be having a detrimental effect so far. Tevez seems to be getting marked out of games. In the Palermon game when he had the ball he had 3 players around him most of the time. He workd hard but I think Pardew doesnt know how to play him. Mascherano gets a lot of the ball but if your DM is getting lots of the ball then there is something wrong. They may have caused unrest in the squad too with them prety much walking straight into the team. Some of the other players may not have taken a liking to that. S123arpedon
I am just questioning the impact of the signings, I think Pardew's managerial abilities are being brought into question though as he isnt quite sure how to play them, or at least Tevez. I dont think players will sulk and play badly but it looks like the something has happened to West Ham since the transfer window. Has it affected team morale in some way? Maybe some players do feel a bit put out...
zeusbheld
i think it is way too soon to write off the argies. having seen some of their good days, i'm convinced the talent is there. and if tevez is triple-marked that says more about the inadequacy of the rest of the team (presumably palermo weren't allowed 2 extra players so there must have been some wide open men somewhere). it may take time for them to settle and work it out, but i dont know how much time they'll have, if a bigger club fancies them. they probably havent' faced many truly solid defenses (watch some brazilian league games and you'll see what i mean). it's possible that they are problem personalities, remember they left corinthians in a hissy. i think they're probably alright, corinthians has been a toxic organization for a while. and argentinians playing in brazil, man i would not want to be one of those. look how harshly brazilian fans treat their own players, imagine if they hate you?? didnt see the game but my guess with all the touches for mascherano maybe pardew is asking him to do too much? i dont think he's ready to be a davids or seedorf. S123arpedon
The Argies playing in Brazil must have been hard for them! Pardew has to take some of the blame for the hammers recent form. I think its becoming clear that he doesnt really know how to play them yet and playing them as he is now isnt really working. Best Argeninian imports to English football have to be Ossie Ardiles and Ricky Villa playing for the mighty Spurs!
marky12345
JEAN ALAIN BOUMSONG, he is the worst footballer i have ever seen in my entire life, was totally ripped apart by the non league forward in the FA cup last year. We got him for a snip at 8.5 million and 50k per week, this only 5 months after Rangers got him for free on a Bosman. This must be one of the most corrupt deals in the history of the game. Graeme Souness the fucken wanker, the nicest thing i could wish that robbing, corrupt, charlatan, prick, is an early death. Albert Luque for 10 million is almost as bad. Hugo Viana for 8.5 million. Carl Cort for 7 million. Marcelino for 6 million. Bramble for 5 million.
S123arpedon
From those transfers i think you can safely say that Souness was on the take! "A Bung or 2 Mr Souness??"

For sure.Wayyyyyyy too early to write them off.No doubting the talent but will they gel with the team?...only time will tell.South American imports into the premiership havent always been a great success.Ultimately however, these 2 guys are expendable.West Ham already had a fairly decent ,very watchable & reasonably successful squad .Pity about Ashton though. zeusbheld
Why do so many people write-off Zlatan? He's an absolutely incredible player - one of the best in the world. I had nothing but respect for Martin O'Neill until his rants about Zlatan in his coverage for the BBC. The man is not overrated, and I can't see anyone at Ajax currently filling his shoes, or scoring goals like the one I have a link to in my profile. Going to Inter is a waste though, since they can never settle on what direction their team is going in, and try and fix everything with big money signings. zlatan is fairly talented but sorry when he was at ajax *he* didnt fill his shoes. ajax fans were NOT sorry to see him go. and as for filling the striker position i suspect klaas-jan huntelaar will do nicely. I'd be excited to see Freddy Adu come to English football. I remember Chelsea's pre season tour of the US (not this pre season, last) when the Chelsea players came away from a game against him saying "we need to sign this kid". The last time I saw players talking up an opponent like that was when Man Utd played Sporting Lisbon in a friendly and got skinned by a young man called Ronaldo. i havent seen actually seen adu play but by reputation he's a beast and has been since he was 13. he's a sturdy lad too. i'm a bit bewildered as to why arena didnt call him up to the world cup?
