Given the fact that the semifinals 2 yrs ago were staffed only by European teams this tournament is close might have come close to a real world championship. Being 100% German + having an Italian cousin + my two best friends coming from Sweden and Turkey + adoring Zinedine Zidane ==> it is not so easy to make up my mind, for whom my heart is beating. Okay, my German blood wants Michael Ballack to receive take the trophy after the finals, but, honestly, I do NOT think that the actual German team is competitive at all, - I wouldn't even be surprised if we go home after the group stage. I have played soccer for roughly 3 decades and during all that time ENGLAND was the key benchmark. They have the - by far - highest speed in the game, sensational players and an outstanding sense of fairness. So a tournament without England is a somewhat numb affair to me. The games are starting in a few minutes, - the streets are completely empty over here, while the public viewing places are overcrowded, but I will drink my beer hoping that, as a compensation, England will win the next world championship. Portugal or Turkey might make the "micro-EURO" in the meantime ....

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is lining up a 25million summer move for Brazil star Kaka. Manager Carlo Ancelotti is a huge admirer of the 28-year-old Real Madrid playmaker, having worked with him during a trophy-laden eight-year stint at AC Milan.. I thought Torres' debut was hilarious. Serves them right. He's ****e.

thought it time (till mid season at least) to lay the 'Man Utd are sh*t' thread to rest. So, am I the only Arsenal fan to see Adebayor and Toure head to Man City, with a combined transfer income from those transactions of between 38 and 41 million GBP, and wonder if any of it is going to be spent in the next 2 weeks?

What will they win in the next few months? League Cup - Yes, though it would be great to see Spurs do it again EPL - Yes FA Cup - No, one of the other big 4 teams UEFA CL - I'm going for Inter to knock them out at home I do hate Man U but they have a great team this year. Pity about the bloody supporters....

Liverpool is only 7 points behind Chelsea now although chelsea have a game to play. I hope the reds can make it a 3 team race. With all of chelsea's injuries I think it's possible. Also, what do you think of Dirk Kuyt? I'm starting to be very impressed with him. At the start of the season I thought he was a step slow. Maybe two. But the guy is just amazing at passing. Almost like a playmaker at central forward. Pennant is finally starting to be useful too. His crosses last night against Bolton were fantastic.

I'm tipping my team Chelsea, Arsenal & Manu U. to progress to the next round.

what's your prediction for who will turn out to be the best signing of the summer? you dont have to limit yourself to the premiership, up to you. my choices: BEST: ajax signing henk ten cate as manager from barca. ok i'll admit i'm biased any long time ajacoid has to be a little sad to see danny blind get bounced out but i think ten cate is ready, and rijkaard is the best manager out there at the moment IMO. as a bonus he brought gabri with him. that's a coup, players just plain don't go from barca to ajax, it goes the *other* way generally . grosso to inter on the cheap i think about 4MM. nice. duff for only 5MM gets an honorable mention. i think he will prove more than 5MM worth of player. ballack gets the other honorable mention. the price is right--free, although the salary is probably formidable. he'd be a great signing if the cheskeviks didn't already have a lot of less-than-blazing-fast, talented central middies. could end in tears. sheva will play well if mourinho finds a formation wherein the middies can feed hiim properly but he's too expensive to be a 'best signing' imo. he's gonna play too well to be a 'worst signing' imo. WORST: it's a tough call but i'll go with ibrahimovic to inter. how do you say 'vastly overrated' in italian? 25MM? come ON. fortunately for them they picked up crespo for a free loan (bet it goes permanent). dirk kuyt. whoa that's a gamble. he could turn out great or he could be absolutely putrid, most likely just invisible. he strikes me as a bit of a headcase, and i think his scoring ability is highly overrated. as an ajacoid i'm just glad they didnt take huntelaar. carrick gets an honorable mention. i think he's a good player but not 18.5MM good.

Only 1 game has been played and that was Arsenals demolition of Leeds yesterday! 5-0 with Henry getting 4 goals in that game. He has sscored 5 hatricks now for Arsenal!! 10 points clear with only 5 games to go...Henry really is an awesome player! Leeds have only 4 games to save themselves from relegation. They are 2 points behind Portsmouth who are in 17th placve but they have 2 games in hand! its looking pretty desperate. They might be even worse off depending ont he results of the games tonight.
