Grooved_Arete
Has any other TF member been sent an e-mail like the one I received today (shown below)? It is one of a certain genre. Why anyone would get sucked into such a scam, I have no idea, but apparently they do.... My advice is to steer well clear of such too-good-to-be-true schemes; they are just that. The e-mail I received is as follows: ________________________________________________________________ From : Joy Smith [email protected] Reply-To : [email protected] Sent : 18 September 2006 15:18:23 From Joy Smith Address :- 10052 kissy Avenue, Marcory Ramblais, Abidjan, Cote d'ivoire, West Africa. Now I have decided to invest these money in your country or anywhere safe enough outside Africa for security and political reasons. I want you to help me claim and retrieve these fund from the Fiduciary Fund Holders in Amsterdam and transfer it into your personal account in your country for investment purposes If you can be of an assistance to me I will be pleased to offer to you 20% Of the total fund and 5% for any expenses made during transaction. English_George
I've been sucked into many scams in the past....... Santa Claus rides a sleigh around the world in one night..... The tooth fairy sneaks under your pillow and replaces it with the correct currency for your country........... The easter bunny roams the country side strategically placing chocolate eggs for you to find........ .........these are the roots of deception and the roots run wild........... macca_tirana
WARNING. The latest one i receieved was from a global online lottery company. Claming i had won 1,000 pounds in a free draw. It used all the UK national lottery details including address and email address. They knew all my details such as home address, lottery numbers (from UK lottery online), next of kin. It was very clever and above usual standard, almost believable. It made me contact UK lottery to ask if genuine, reply a very clear NO. Have receievd lots of scams but this one nearly got me
Kitschiguy
English_George, I think you'll find that fairies (faeries) exist and are all around us. I know because I've seen them. So, the tooth fairy must be real too!
inamorato25
First of all, if you get a scam email like this on TF, tell a mod so we can ban their ass right away. And not all of these scams are on line. I was partying in a club in Pattaya and an african guy approached me and just started talking. He asked me where I was from and how I liked Thailand and so on. I told him I was in Japan and he started saying it was a coincidence -- that he and his friends were looking for a business partner to open up a bar in Tokyo. I kept trying to blow him off as I was actually in the middle of a dance. Ok, it was my buddy's gf I was dancing with, so no pressure, but it was annoying the hell out of me. Next thing I know, there are two of his buddies there and they are being way aggressive about talking about this business proposition. I finally just said, "Let it go boys, I'm dancing." It wasn't until a few minutes later that I realized they were trying to pull the same kind of scam that these internet guys do -- the offer of a good deal -- and eventually it comes out that they need just a bit of your money to start the transfer of funds, etc. Anyway, watch out for these dickheads.
