MichaelGray
England in big troubleENGLAND face a huge battle to avoid defeat in the opening Ashes Test after another nightmare day in Brisbane. The tourists finished the day 50-3 in reply to Australia's mammoth 602-9 declared. Well I can't say that I'm at all surprised, yet it's still painful to watch us getting battered. Is there any hope for the English down under, this ashes series? MikeAussieGuy
At 5 - 118 the POMS have shown their balls are, as usual, made out of marshmallow. 5 English wickets for half the score of a single Aussie, sounds about right. anenglishman
The Ashes DietDay 3 ? Lunch A large Flintoff duck Fantastic, best message on the BBC site was "Send an SOS to Ramprakash: 'Abandon your sequins, your country needs you!'". Best headline. Q: Why does everyone take an instant dislike to Pieterson? A: Becasue it saves time. I thought there'd be a 300 spread between the two teams but looks like my mate got it right with his 600 prediction. Better to write this one off as a learning experience and go back to the drawing board England. 118 for 5 anyone want a side bet England won't break 200? I will take the bet. JayB
I will take the bet. MikeAussieGuy
Yes mate actually the Aussies batted and bowled on a different pitch to England Well England can take some heart out of it, they only had 39 runs to go and the whole English team would have equalled Pontings score
CiaranM
Well England can take some heart out of it, they only had 39 runs to go and the whole English team would have equalled Pontings score and they couldn't even do that .... is it true in the second innings the Aussies r batting with 1 hand tied behind their back !!! Makes perfect sense, give the bowlers a rest and set a quick fire 550+ for the poms to chase on the final 2 and a bit days.

Dave40
I would say losing the ashes in 2005 was a wake up call for us I think a few players got quite comfortable in the team and just thought they would win pretty easy but to their credit the english outplayed Aust and won the series. Overconfidence or arrogrance by Aust probably abit of both, maybe. I think the english will find it hard to come back from here, but the fat lady ain't singing yet!!! macca_tirana
Due to the time difference the UK day is just starting as the days play down under is just coming to an end. The cricket has not been the best news to start the day. Look on the bright side though, we should have an extra 2 days practice for the next match, this will all be over by tomorrow. The last ashes did a lot for cricket, people who had never previously shown any interest suddenly became hooked. This series could end up losing all that the previous one had gained. Come on England i really dont want to lose my bet with Mikeaussieguy
GAV
Macca ya money is gone, you just dont know it yet Why is Australia batting again instead of enforcing the England team back out. Simple, he is resting his bowlers. He told them to go hard out, and clean up If they do this he would rest them for a few hours. This he has done. England will come out tomorrow and face fresh Bowlers, again. Day 4 should be very interesting
macca_tirana
Macca ya money is gone, you just dont know it yet On the contrary my friend. Even the most optomistic person cant see this one being turned round. Regards the bet, it aint about money its even worse. I will have to "Award" him with a beer, in a very busy pub, and announce it is for the greatest cricket team in the world.
