Bars and restaurants best avoided.

Everyone has a bad experience in a bar or restaurant from time to time so I figured that it might serve our members well to not only have a thread in which to vent about establishments that have left a bad taste in your mouth but also to warn fellow members not to go.

I was at my regular Sunday evening haunt when my friend cracked under pressure from his rental for the evening and dragged me down to the 'Absolute 7' bar in Suk 7/1.

It's a poorly planned bar with pool tables, loads of girls and even a band. The place was crowed with the typical sexpats and tourists therefore hard to get a seat, a drink and a shot at the pool table. I don't know what people see in a place like that.

I was peeed off for being there but my mood improved when I spent 2 hours on the pool table.

Got man thingyy though and was talked into a game by the local Thai shark and dropped 1,000 baht on the back of one of the easiest shots. :cry:

1. absolute may be the most popular hang out for Tfer's as of late...with at least one or two events there per month...so you just picked a fight with just about every active meber here

2. loosing 1000baht to pool shark speaks for itself.

i am quite sure your friend musn't be a sexpat...his rental for the evening must have been a car :wink:

I would be really curious to see where your Regular evening haunt is, so that maybe we will all change venues :wink: I don't go to either of them if they are called Patpingpong, or ST. Anglican church :cry: Please enlighten us to a good hangout!

For a place you can sit outside and listen to some live music, a few steps from the BTS, Absolute ain't that bad. Menu no good though.

i'd put more doubts on places you recommend. i've been to absolute bar, it's not that great but it's not as bad as you put it either.

Perhaps I just went there on an off night. :?

is not the best way to avoid these avoidable places to go somewhere else? and would it not be in the public interest to specify that somewhere else?

i prefer to avoid gullivers whenever possible. i'd prefer to end up at somewhere that has hoegaarden on tap, but the only place i can think of is face bar, and i haven't been there in a while.

Absolutely shocking, imagine having a band in a bar!! :shock: ...... next you'll be telling us there were people dancing and singing and enjoying themselves, yep a place best avoided :roll:

Avoid places with rats outside, is it just me but are they getting bigger?

Avoid restaurants with less than 10 people dining.

Avoid restaurants with no Thai people dining.

Avoid bars with welcome girls and girls whose second sentence is ?can you buy me a drink?

Avoid hidden 10% service charge and 7% tax.

Avoid places not recommended by friends and colleagues.

Don?t go on image alone, always get value for money.

Always buy bottled beer.

Always check the seal on spirits.

I think I?ve just discounted every bar and restaurant in Sukhumvit!. Although Gullivers (Soi 5) is big and airy as I don?t like smoke, lots of tables to play pool, various sports channels, girls not pushy and the cottage pie is exquisite.

Horses for courses I suppose.

Some general assumptions I know, maybe the reason I buy from Tescos and dine at home most of the time.
