The best are thouse with one-on-one tuition. My recommendation, if they are still there, is Sripattana in Satorn.
Tinian
I think the best school is TLA (Thai Language Achievement) on Silom Road. Excellent teachers, intensive courses, and if you go up through the levels, they concentrate a lot on reading and writing.
frankenburner2
I went to UTL (Unity Thai Language), located in the Times Square Building, close to Asok Skytrain station. This outfit attract mostly Asian students (Japanese, chinese, Koreans and a few Farangs) and prepares them to work in Thailand. Seems to have a good reputation. Advice: Some Korean students tend to turn classes into military academies and have shouting matches...hence, if there are three or more in any one class..I would ask to be switched to another class.... lived and worked in korea for two years....can't imagine koreans getting into a "shouting match"...not even over thier beloved academics....not really in their nature...academically competitive..sure...but i think they would be more likely to pout in the corner rather than get into a shouting match. MisterMatlock
The Thai language course at Chula university. Difficult but probably the best in the world.
Steve2000
It's all down to the teacher(s). Plenty crap; plenty great. If you are single, then have a Thai girlfriend to throw you in the deep end of language and real Thai social life, whilst at the same time having a private grammatical teacher so you can read and formulate sentences reasonably properly. (Let's look at the picture again....Glup!!) If whatever school that you engage sends you somebody pretty useless for instruction then demand a change of instructor assuming you aren't ignorant and naive enough to pay 100% up front.
