BrianAZ
I am thinking about purchasing one. I have no idea what the permits are required or Licensing. And I am sure I would need a work permit of somekind. Obviously I would not buy a business without checking into it and going to the business. 0 friendlyCat
Thailand is famous for foreigners buying a bar or restaurant and losing all their money....so I am sure that you will find people with experience. Buyer beware.
0 trocks69
why dont you try working at one first to try and figure out the ins and outs of owning a bar in thailand
0 condotown
For every single bar or restaurant in Thailand, I'd wager a bet that there is at least one owner per establishment.
0 sunsnow
Yes. For example the Absolute bar commercial that you see around is owned by a member. Other places to start searching for information are (I guess you have done so already though and just looking for real life experiences, so, even so, these sites could help more): Thaivisa Pattaya Addicts http://www.buythaibooks.com (features books about business owning in Thailand ) What is bit troubling that you ask what are the licenses, so how much actually you have at this point done any background work? Oh, website that sells thai business is part of Sunbelt Asia group or something, google them too.

0 AussieGuy
I am thinking about purchasing one.I have no idea what the permits are required or Licensing. Ty Buy a go-go. You will go broke quicker, but have much more fun. Seriously, I have met a few guys who are making money from bars in Bk, Pat, and Phk, but it is very hard work. Also, from my observations, if you do not drink alcohol you will be more successful managing a bar.
0 Wagner
Why do you want to buy a bar ? Is your intention to make money or do you just want to have scantilly clad hookers sucking up to you every night ? If you want to make money, you are about to make one of the worst investments one can in Thailand. If you just enjoy the hookers and booze, use the money to tip them as a customer. That way your money will last much longer. There are people who are successful in running a bar in Thailand, even some foreigners, but they are few and far between. You said yourself you don't know much about anything related to that business over here. That should be a clear indicator for you not to take that path. I bet you will nevertheless. Let us know in 6mon how you are doing. I hope this helps.
0 Tuck
Looking at the global economy, tourism is definitely going to take a hit in the next 2 years even if the recession ebbs out in the next 6 months. If your establishment is going to depend on the tourist income then this would be absolutely the worst time to start. Some other things to think about : *Do you have someone with high level contacts (Mafia) and if so can they protect you from the other elements in the neighbourhood. *If you plan to stay open late, you need to negotiate 'bribes' with the law enforcement & government *If its going to be a nightclub then you need a theme (and music genre). Also Thailand requires 'touring dj' licenses to let dj's perform. If any of the above hadnt even crossed your mind, then I suggest you keep your money in the bank and do some solid groundwork before you even consider investing your $$ On the other hand if you want to squander away your money, Id be more than willing to help

0 Germannrw
Last 7 Weeks i stay thailand , from this 7 week about 3 weeks in Pattaya . The forbidden town was not the same before ! Only a small farang people stay there . Much bars for sale , much restaurants for sale ....I think the world crisis , the pig flue , and also the demonstrations from red and yellow ( i saw every week in north by dolphin wire ) is an aspect from this ... So make a holiday there , but never buy a bar or a restaurant ! Or wait better times What we oldtimers say : How to make a million in thailand ?
