If McCain wa sthe strongest candidate they could come up with it shows you how weak this republican opponent was. EXACTLY. not McCain's fault so much, although he DID run a particularly inept campaign (an endorsement from **** "Mr. Popular" Cheney THREE DAYS before the election?? WTF???). they should thank Dubya for that. they'd have had to resurrect Dwight D Eisenhower to have had a realistic shot once the economy tanked. maybe that wouldn't be enough, they might have had to go for Teddy Roosevelt, or even Lincoln. A Whig would have stood a better chance. i think 20th century repugnicants are still more like 19th century democrats like Andy Jackson (well, except they seem to have mastered US Grant's flair for corruption). we still have no idea what a 21st century republican would look like.... i doubt we'll find out any time soon, that party is a shambles at the moment.
