Basically the major tip for anyone at any time whether recession or not would be NOT TO LIVE ABOVE YOUR MEANS. So many people want to live better then they can afford and unfortunately it's the media and business that wants people to do, don't cave in..

I strongly agree that people should try to live within their means.

If you don't have the cash, better to wait another day rather than create more debt.
