i've never been an english teacher so i don't know how y'all do it but seems to me you count lots of paper--just the kind you put A, B, or C on, not the kind with kings or dead presidents on 'em.

which sorta excludes the hiso wannabe types that infest Bed from your "good Thai girl" list. breaks your heart i'm sure.

I dont teach at a School. I dont have the patience for children who aren't mine (not that i have any now). And I am not a babysitter.

When I talk about "good Thai girls", I am talking about the type of girl that when you walk on to the MRT, other Thais don't look at each other in disapproval knowing or assuming how you met her, but wonder how you were able to get a girl like that in the first place. Fortunately, only a small minority of those foreigners who live here understand or know what I am talking about.

jesus wept .... where do they get these guys from ???

I;m not sure, and I can't quite work out which are the worst, the Brits or the Yanks, it seems that both have the intellectual capacity and understanding of a Nana troll crossed with the high school geek prefect.

Good luck searching for your bland girl, they ain't hard to find.

SCB even charge for paying money into your account if it is not the branch where you hold your account.

Didn't know that. I direct deposit.

I also have my profile open to view by others and don't hide behind an angry picture of John McCain (and a lot of paper). Hahahaha.

What makes you think I have a lot of paper? For the record I'm jobless, I'm a jobless dropout with long hair and a beard, but you caught me, sometimes I go to posh restaurants so there are some wannabe high-so tendencies in me somewhere.

To me, bland is the cookie-cutter girl that 90% of foreigners date because they don't have the option or ability to move out of their comfort zone.

Where DO you get your facts, figures and numbers from.... 90%?!?!?!

Whats that all about???!?!?

Maybe 90% was a wrong way to say it. 80% better? What about 85%? Or was it too low? 95% maybe? Or how about a more defensible "The vast majority of foreigners." Is that more acceptable?

Nope, it was just a dumb number made up by some guy who does not move much outside of his ''comfort zone''... blah blah blah.

 wondering am I one of the 80%-95%

I think you drew conclusions that might mirror your own personal experiences. I was just talking about a "cookie cutter type" that is obvious to anyone with basic powers of observation. And to keep the generalization fair, it seems to be that the men that these cookie cutter types hang out with fit their own stereotype as well.

Some people just hate to face obvious truths.

Beej, I don't know. In our home countries, we are not foreigners and these debates wouldn't be taking place (a whole host of other, much more complex but ultimately more boring arguments would). As far as being a foreigner in another part of the world, honestly, I haven't lived anywhere else in the world so I really couldn't talk about it properly.

can you read ?? can you understand written english ?? no wonder some ppl look on english teachers as the lowest of the low, when someone who says they teach the subject can't even comprehend a simple post on a forum !! FFS !!

pls enlighten me with what conclusions i have drawn that might mirror my or anybody else's personal experiences !!

now anyone with a basic understanding wil note that i have made absolutely NO conclusions whatsoever .... merely suggesting that u just might have made ur f**king figures up ... now if u have data, facts or evidence to back up ur figures feel free to share them with us. would be interesting to see them.

otherwise brush up on ur comphrension and understanding of the english language .... it leaves a lot to be desired at present !!

I do not see what's the deal is.

When i travel anywhere else in the world, they always charge me from using my Thai cards oversea withdrawn fee around same 150 baht. it's not recent and it's quite normal. I can't see why foreigners come to Thailand should be exempted. May be Thailand is catching up with the rest.

Nah, the TBA is just expressing the normal, shortsighted money grabbing opportunistic business mindset which prevails in many parts of the business community. The big deal is that this is yet another opportunistic charge which is patently being arbitarily imposed. Yes there are obvious ways to minimise the fee but you don't see Vietnam, HK, Indonesia or Malaysia Banking Associations advising their members to impose a similar charge.

Sorry SB but with respect, your post is crap, . The inter-bank ATM withdrawl fee of US $4.50-$5 is not "quite normal" around the world. Your basing this statement of having been to HM countries in the last year?? I would have been to about 30 countries in the 18 months and there is perhaps only a few that I can think of with such a charge on the same scale, eg. Spain (where the banking system is a tad sleepy), Morocco & Japan (where they charge just to look at the ATM - I did go to the wrong bank late at night, normally I exchange US$)

Are you confusing the charge that your bank imposes which is a percentage of the withdrawl amount as opposed to a nominal flat inter-bank charge that a domestic bank will impose for an ATM withdrawl by a non-domestic bank card ?

everytime I use my Kbank ATM in Manila, I'm charged somewhere between 200-300 pesos [about 150 baht]. So I try to limit withdrawal to big amounts so it will be worth it, otherwise I just use it as a debit card so it won't charge me fees.

Strange, as such a fee is imposed reagrdless of whether you use a credit card, savings ATM card or debit ATM card in a domestic banks ATM to withdrawl cash so I don't understand how your debit card made a difference?

Somkiat Panyaworakhundet, 33, was arrested with 15 million baht in cash last Friday. He was charged with embezzling a total of about 400 million baht from the state-run Government Housing Bank over the past few years.

During working hours, Somkiat Panyaworakhundet, was a hard working bank teller. In fact, his Saint Louis Soi 3 branch of the Government Housing Bank had honored him by naming him an outstanding employee.

The 33-year-old banker had a nasty secret, however. After working hours when the bank had finished its daily clearing, he used his position to conduct personal business with the bank?s money.

Mr Somkiat allegedly made about 30 transfers per day through the bank?s ATM system into several accounts he opened with banks located in the Siam Square area of Bangkok?s Pathumwan district.

Altogether he embezzled some 700,000-900,000 baht each day, a very good business for the year-and-a-half it lasted.

During that time was able to buy himself a luxurious house in the Lat Phrao area and fill it with expensive audio systems and furniture. Police estimated the house to be worth about 40 million baht. He travelled around the city in a brand-new luxury BMW sedan.

Altogether, police estimate he embezzled about 400 million baht from the bank.

Mr Somkiat?s good life started to unravel when ATM supervisors discovered irregular movements of money through his accounts. They started tracking his transfers and when they were sure he was stealing the bank?s money, they notified the Crime Suppression Division.

CSD Sub-division 1 chief Pol Col Pornsak Surasit said Mr Somkiat was aware that the police were hunting him, so he tried to escape to Cambodia. He was arrested Friday morning as he was driving his BMW along the Nakhon Ratchasima-Buri Ram Road in Si Sa Ket province. He was reportedly carrying 15 million baht in cash.

According to GHB president Khan Prachuabmoh, a big reason Mr Somkiat was able to make off with so much money is that no one suspected he could be a thief.

??Mr Somkiat showed no signs of irregularities at all. He acted like an ordinary office worker who came to work by bus,?? Mr Khan said.

Why did he do it? In a short press conference after he was caught, Mr Somkiat said that he did not have any gambling debts. He just wanted the money to buy his house, cars and other belongings.

Using it as a debit card [meaning swiping it to pay for stuff] won't be charged with such fees vs. withdrawing money via atm.

Ok thanks, that makes sense. I guess your still incurring electronic payment fees (the 1% to 3% fee of the purchase) and at a bad exchange rate so I guess one may actually end up paying more than incurring the large inter-bank ATM fee charge?

Bloody banks seems impossible that they could lose money!

Actually, the my Kbank account gives me better exchange rate when I'm in the Philippines. It's good as cash in most stores and restaurants so there's really no additional fees there. If I exchange baht in a forex outlet, the rate would be 1 baht = 1.00-1.20 pesos. But when I swipe it, the rate is actually 1.30-1.35. I know it's just a few cents, but I need to save for shopping... even a cent matters a lot. lol.

Stunning story. Shows how incapable every authority and business dealing in this country is. The guy was for fucks sake having multiple accounts on his own name and all those activities after hour. Any decent country has in their banks systems that rise red flags against these kind of basic thiefing games. Those big multibillion ponzi scemes are different thing as they dont operate at this kind of low level as this guy was doing. Good for him I say! The banks deserved it if they are that stupid and impotent.

I have an HSBC (UK) debit card for my account and I am not sure now how much, but I pay a small monthly fee in return for which I dont have to pay HSBC transfer fees if I use HSBC machines and I think there are no transfer costs at the UK end when I withdraw funds from another ATM (I would need to look into that last point to be certain though). In fact as long as I use HSBC ATM whereaver I am, the transaction is free. Not hugely helpful in BKK, but it could help get that large sum from the UK without exhorbitant fees...

Account Plus? When I got my account I was advise that there is no fee for using international ATM's and you get the business exchange rate (or something like that).
