June 10, 2009 Article from: Australian Associated Press A PEDOPHILE priest who claimed he was giving an altar boy an anatomy lesson when he sexually molested him has been jailed for more than two years. Desmond Laurence Gannon, 79, was a Catholic priest at Kilmore, north of Melbourne, when he abused the boy on three separate occasions in 1968 and 1969. Gannon pleaded guilty to five counts of indecently assaulting a male under 16. The offences occurred during an 18-year period of abuse at Victorian parishes by Gannon. Sentencing Gannon, Judge Frank Gucciardo said the abuse terrified his victim and made the boy "feel sick". "This was a well-worn, thought-out routine ... with sex education a poor excuse," he said. The judge said Gannon had demonstrated a lack of remorse and empathy. He jailed Gannon for 25 months, ordering him to serve 14 months before being eligible for parole. Ya cant expect him to live longer eh. If he die in jail is going to be too easy for him. So Good 2years behind bar and should be lots more time serving service to people! Cold-blooded. Very Cold blooded but true, no time to change, chemical castration etc is too late. Using a position of trust and faith is unforgivable, burnt at the stake maybe?..... That is f*cking ridiculous A case just finished this morning at the High Court in Edinburgh, where Scotland's biggest ever paedophile network received sentences from 2 to 17 years. Now the guy who got the longest sentence of 17 years was NOT actually convicted of any assaults or molestation.His main charge was conspiring to sexually abuse children. So they had been planning to gain access to kids for sexual gratification but had not got to that stage (thank christ) 3 of them were convicted of this and along with 3 others, also convicted of making and possessing with intent to distribute indecent images of children. Now these sentences do send out a message. The 3 who were convicted of the conspiracy charge received 17 years (for the guy seen as the 'leader'), 9 years and 9 months and 8 years and 9 months. But this beasty wee fenian priest will maybe serve 14 months and then get released??? Its jus my point of of view... suffer in prison, die in prison, and then rot in prison... is just physically suffer but maybe IS not suffer enough for a cold-blooded person. He should be outside after serving the time period behind the bar to face the humiliate to the public... So be ill with both physically and mentally. ok am a meanie when it come down to this. Harsh but satisfying. I'm in total agreement it's deplorable the act took place at all, went on or was covered up as long as it was and now the perpetrator gets a miserly 2 years lock down. In fact all these heinous acts across all countries are to be condemned and measures taken so if they happen again, severe punishment is to be expected. But then I'm amazed (not really) at all the sudden, righteous, revenge seeking wannabes that leverage the terrible acts of a few as a full frontal assault on the Catholic Church in particular and Christianity in general. If logic were to prevail (and it won't), these same "outraged" people should reserve equal condemnation for those that would perpetrate global terrorist attacks in the name of Allah, no? How about the Madrassas leaders indoctrinating today's children into tomorrow's homicide bombers? Should we do something about them? "MARION COUNTY, Fla. -- A convicted child molester and kidnapper died in prison last month after choking on a hot dog, prison officials said. Frederick Fretz, 45, was serving a 20-year sentence at the federal penitentiary in California when he died on Dec. 19. According to a prison spokesman, medics tried to remove the hot dog from Fretz's throat before taking him to a hospital. Fretz pleaded guilty in 2005 to kidnapping a 10-year-old boy from Marion County. The boy was found with Fretz three days later in Georgia."
