Staring at goats

really looking forward to this one so thought I'd share the trailer...  A reporter, trying to lose himself in the romance of war after his marriage fails, gets more than he bargains for when he meets a special forces agent who reveals the existence of a secret, psychic military unit whose goal is to end war as we know it. The founder of the unit has gone missing and the trail leads to another psychic soldier who has distorted the mission to serve his own ends  with George Clooney, Ewen McGre

Boing!!!! And other tales...

some amazing shots from the current BBC Naturefest 'Life' First the Pebble Toad, with a rather innovative way of evading being Mr Spider's lunch...  and then the Brazilian pygmy gecko, known as the 'Jesus Christ' lizard, for reasons that will become apparent.

Happy Birthday Monty!!

I know Rob posted the 'dead parrot' the other day, but since today is the actual 40th anniversary of the first every Monty Python show being broadcast, and because you cannot get too much of a good thing, here are some more classic snippets...

coping with the recession...

with everyone tightening the purse strings and often downsizing their car, there are now many V8 cars sitting idle... so, how can you utilise that V8 engine without guzzling gas?

Happy Birthday Kus!!!!

It's that special day for that intriguing girl Kus...   sometimes she can be a bit of a moaner... (no smutty comments please)    and she can definitely be tough when she needs to be...   and she loves nothing better than to have a drink in her hand (esp martini rosso)   though we have yet to see evidence of her alleged steamy affair with goldenballs...     but she is definitely wanted...though by whom and for what I could not possibly comment...   but everyone knows her

farewell Chas and Dave...

after 35 years, popular Rockney duo Chas and Dave have announced they are splitting.  While never pushing the boundaries of popular music, they were both accomplished musicians, and their playing has been sampled by Eminem, Jay Z, Wu Tang Clan and Foxy Brown among others. They were one of the ultimate beer bands; first time I saw them, around 18 years ago, I approached the evening with trepidation, but after a few beers, and then a couple more, I was down the front singing 'Gertcha' with the bes

thoughts...

If you're not familiar with the work of Steven Wright, he's the famous erudite scientist who once said: "I woke up one morning and all of my stuff had been stolen and replaced by exact duplicates." His mind sees things differently than most of ours do, to our amazement, and amusement. Here are some of his gems: 1 - I'd kill for a Nobel Peace Prize. 2 - Borrow money from pessimists -- they don't expect it back. 3 - Half the people you know are below average. 4 - 99% of lawyers give the res

SAS vs The Marines

A British SAS squad and an American Marines squad are together in the middle of a city. The commanding officers of each group are discussing the merits of SAS vs Marines; these officers have reputations for being the strongest, toughest and most feared men in the whole of the armed forces. The American squad leader turns to the British officer and says "My Marines are so much braver than your SAS." "I doubt that very much." says the SAS officer. "They are much braver," says the American. "Watc

the squirrel and the grashopper...

REST OF THE WORLD VERSION:  The squirrel works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building and improving his house and laying up supplies for the winter. The grasshopper thinks he's a fool, and laughs and dances and plays the summer away. Come winter, the squirrel is warm and well fed. The shivering grasshopper has no food or shelter, so he dies out in the cold.  THE END    LABOUR GOVERNMENT IN THE THE UK VERSION  The squirrel works hard in the withering heat all summer long, bu

transatlantic sessions

more from the transatlantic sessions, currently getting a 'best of' showing on the Beeb. There is a rich exchange of ideas between Celtic music and American music such as folk and bluegrass, there is even a part Gaelic foundation to the origins of Gospel Music. First up the late great John Martyn with Big Muff.(great title)   Then Dan Tyminski and friends with Man of Constant Sorrow (this is who sang George Clooney's part in O brother Where Art Thou)   and lastly the haunting
