Vinnie there are so many as you may know. MY suggestion is the Holiday Inn in Chidlom opposite the WTC. Its recently renovated and managed by the Intercontinental Hotel chain.

Its centrally located to just about everything, WTC, Paragon, Siam etc etc. all within walking distance and BTS at the front door.

Other than the night life 4-5 days is enough to see polluted, traffic congested Bangkok, get them out of Bangkok and into the country for them to see Thailand, not crappy Bangkok.

You don't say if it's their first visit or not. If it's their first visit, then then are plenty of things to do. Will they book organized tours or will you be showing them around personally? Anyway, here is just a partial list of suggestions:

- Grand Palace (Wat Pra Kaew) and Wat Po

- Other temples: Wat Arun, Wat Poo Kow Tong, Wat Traimit

- Damnoen saduak floating market & Rose Garden

- Ayutthaya (best way is by boat one-way)

- Kanchanaburi (River Kwai)

- Chatuchak weekend market

- Yaowarat (Chinatown)

- Shopping (MBK, Siam Paragon, etc.)

Lots of hotels in the four star category to choose from. The Ambassador might be one, reasonably priced and near the Nana BTS (Sukhumvit 11). Do some online shopping for hotels and rates!

If your friends wants to take a risk, why don't you simply walk up to the front desk of a 5 * Hotel and ask for a special discount price. It always worked for me and you will be amazed what prices you get. DO NOT book over the Internet, in my experience this is more expensive.

Good 5 * hotels is (in my experience) Four Seasons, Oriental (of course), but also Shangri La and both Sheraton at Chao Praya River and also at Sukhumvit.

I can also recommend the Rembrant Hotel (off Sukhumvit) or the Dusit at Silom.

thank you Mike Holiday Inn would be on my top 5 .. surely i will get them out of the polution around bkk ( perhaps a day trip to Ayuthaya or cruising along Chaopraya river )

Royal hotel River ?? ok i will check it out ( is it near the bts?? i don't want them to take the cab all the time as u know the chauffeur gonna charge them coz they are farangs or else drive in circle ) thanks for ur option na apple

Khun Lung this will be thier first time in thailand ka and i will show them around bangkok for just 2 days .. then i will make the list for them to visit .. such as Chang mai , Krabi , Kanchanaburi, Ayuthaya and Surin ...

the Ambassador is not in their scene .. as they are an old couple they don't like to be around Nana ka ..

Dominique... that is a smart advice .. i will follow ur guidance :) maybe a friend in Dusit Thani can manage this for me

thanks everyone i really appreciate it

Try The Davis Bangkok in Soi 24. A new boutique hotel that has reasonable prices and offers something different. Emporium close by (half hourly shuttle bus from hotel) so obviously on the BTS or not far away. I have stayed at most places already mentioned and the davis is a refreshing change...

I stayed at the Ambassador in Sukhumvit Soit 12-13. Was very nice there, pretty quiet and maybe1-200 meters from the BTS. Nice small open air restaurant with music and internetcafes.

Also pretty cheap, around 1200 bahts.

Good hotel.

Of all the lists of hotels mentioned here, I'd say the Ambassador seems to be the best choice. The price is reasonable, very close to BTS, and they can do a little shopping around the area without going to Patpong.

kung_lung has given u the lists of places to visit. I'd recommend a one day trip first stop at the Grand Palace, lunch around Tha Chang/Tha Prachan Area, then take a taxi or tuk tuk (around 50-60 baht) to Vimanmek Mansion before 2 pm for Thai dance performance and then check out the mansion. Then go to Anantasamakom Palace which is also in the same area. Once u buy ur ticket at the Grand Palace, u'll get tickets to access Vimanmek and the Anantasamakom Palace as well. So ur friends don't waste their money. ( for Thai - free entrance at the Grand Palace, 75 baht for Vimanmek and 10 or 20 baht for Anantasamakom)

Apart from making use of all the tickets, the reason I recommend that day trip is becoz u can see various achitectural style in the Grand Palace, starting from Sukhothai period all the way to Rama V period that u'll normally see in the temples, anyway. So one stop would be enough.

Vimanmek is the biggest teak wood mansion in the world. Inside the mansion, although it was renovated and decorated in western style, u'll still get a sense of Thai traditional lifestyle. They also have a guide to tell many interesting details as well.

Anantasamakom shows how great Thai nation was during the rein of king Rama V and shows how modern our King was.

And if ur friend stay somewhere near the BTS line, I'd recommend u to go take a tourist boat at the Central Pier (Sathorn Pier). It's only 20 baht per person and the first boat is at 9 am and runs every 30 mins. U'll get to enjoy the view with a guide to tell u about places along the river as well.

I hope this is useful for ur being a good host mission. ^_^

Oh... about food.... if budget is not a problem, I'd recommend Bussaracum restuarant. They have some traditional Thai appertizers that r quite hard to find and they actually taste good as well. The food there are kinda mild coz it's Royal Thai cuisine so will not be too spicy.

My bf also loves Banana Leaf restaurant at Silom Complex. So u might wanna check them out if u run out of idea. ^_^

I like khun_lung's list. A lot depends on their age and interests. I remember my first trip to BKK, was mostly on my own and felt overwhelmed. Also the heat and pollution was oppressive. I suggest that you do not "over-plan" for them, they may need time back in the hotel just relaxing in the aircon. In selecting the hotel, location is important, and planning the activites to avoid long time stuck in traffic.

I might also add: they might like seeing Muey Thai boxing, seeing some of the nightlife, traditional Thai song and dance, RCA complex, dinner cruise on the Chao Phraya river...

If they are not happy with your tour guide services, give them bus fare and a map and a copy of lonely planet guide and meet them at night. ;<))
