Be very careful...

I had the same message... "You have a virus... click here to download MSN Virus Remover."

But when I clicked... I downloaded a VIRUS!

Then the virus writers send you a message asking for 50 dollars to remove the virus... bastards.

Get a real virus protection program...not the 100 baht pantip version. You have to pay a bit every year, but it saves you a lot of time and money in the end. I've been using NOD32 for a couple of years now.

You can buy NOD32 antivirus program for about 700 baht a year. They sell it at all True Coffee shops.

MSN seems to be a virus writers playground.. I use the Mac but still get all the insane messages pop up from about 90% of the people infected on my list. Thankfully they never penetrate further than that.

Steinar>> that means... to prevent hacker, right? i will try, thank you

Wicked>> i did try. i download and do it in safe mode... it says "no known virus found in this computer"... amm...that could be meant i need to do more.... right?

English_Bob>> hope you dont mind... i refuse following you ...lol :)

Japamerican>> i have ESET smart security... i got it for free since i bought this computer (Dell)... is it ok? its quality is same as NOD32?

si6>> i got insane messages from people in my list too... let's say about 10 people or more. i never click on the link they wrote... never reply to them. just close those boxes. i thought that it would be safe.

since i hadnt used msn for long. i would think it's safe too... however, i got a couple of msgs said i have virus, i now couldnt see what i got/effect to myself/my computer yet.

Sorry for making any generalizations here but . . . dammit, it happens so often I have to say something.

My guesstimate is that 90% of all of the virus things I get come in from accounts that I primarily use in Thailand. For instance, I used to use one email address on TF and MSN. So basically, almost everybody who has that email address is either Thai or someone I know from Thailand. My other email address I use with friends back in Europe, the US, etc. I have Yahoo, MSN, Skype, AIM, and Google Talk all working with that email address.

The TF/MSN address I would say I get a message once a day from someone who's account has obviously been hacked. On the other address I might get that once or twice a year.

I think the main culprit was not even a virus. It was a message that got sent out on MSN that said "Click here to find out who's deleted you off of their MSN list" or something like that. And then you were taken to a page that told you that you had to enter your Hotmail/MSN account name and password so they could look it up. Of course, all it did was steal all of your contacts and your login information then it sent out the same spam message from your account to everyone on your MSN list. And a certain percentage of those people clicked the link and gave their information.

I'm sure that since then they're the same people who are sending out the virus messages since they now control thousands or millions of MSN accounts all over the world. And all because . . . somebody got a message saying "Who has deleted you" and somebody was curious enough to try and find out why.

emm... i ever got that on MSN too.... "Who has deleted you"... but i dont care... never ever click on that link....

agree with you... somebody (many) was curious enough to do that tho' and unfortunately, my (our) email address is in those contact lists....

how come they can steal my MSN!!???

PS. my friends said they got those spam message long time ago... my guesstimate is that it would be when i used the old computer, and when i use MSN virus scan on my (new) current computer... so they said "no known virus found"... well, well.. have to try advance tool!!!

Open task manager and click the second tab 'processes' and check to see if you have any strange processes running. Just google them to find out what they are if you're not sure. If not I think this is spam - changing your login details might help. You can also change your privacy settings and only allow people on your list to contact you, this can stop you receiving the messages. You can ask your friends to do the same and see if the messages stop, at least that way you can determine whether or not its spam.

i did open task manager > processes... well, i really have no idea what is the stranger!!!

i only open .exe (too many tabs) for now... i will do it again when i open nothing... so that i can guess easier...

thank you for your suggestion. i will do it. :)

i just checked my hotmail.... i have more then 2,000 email in inbox....

checking them guadually... partly i found more than 100 "Delivery Status Notification (Failure)" emails....

i randomly checked those emails... they were sent to unknown emails.... and those names are quiet junk email address!

changing passward would help? enough?

Probably since the issue seems to be your hacked hotmail account. Unless they used some sort of keylogger or something to get your password a virus scan is never going to show it. Again, part of the reason is that they disguise it like when you first sign up for Facebook or other sites and they say "Hey, invite your friends" and ask you to put in your Hotmail account name and password. There's no virus. You're giving the information to them. Then they use your account to send out email spam and MSN Messenger spam.
