Bangkok named third World's Best City

Bangkok is ranked the third World's Best City, according to Travel + Leisure Magazine's readers' survey for the year 2007.

It is after Florence in Italy which has held the No.1 position for two consecutive years and Buenos Aires in Argentina which this year enjoys the highest ranking ever.

Travel + Leisure's World's Best Awards 2007 also went to Oberoi Udaivilas as the World's Best Hotel-the first time a hotel in India has won the top prize, as well as SeaDream Yacht Club as top Small-Ship Cruise Line. Ranked No. 2 among international airlines, MaxJet makes its debut on the World's Best Awards list.

Among the winners, Singapore Airlines was voted the world's best international airline, The Peninsula Bangkok as the world's best hotel for $250 or less, and Four Seasons Resort in Chiang Mai as the world's best hotel spas in Asia Pacific.

The Travel + Leisure World's Best Awards 2007 winners will be honoured at an awards ceremony at the Morgan Library & Museum in New York City on July 23.

I smell a payoff! Wait, sorry, that wasn't a payoff, it was massive amounts of car, truck, and bus exhaust....

Not as bad as it used to be, still needs a lot of improvement though...

Oh crap!! WTF!!! Am I turning into a "greenie"? Sure miss my F-250 Turbo-Diesel!!!

It's possible. For TRAVELING, you can get pretty much the best of everything here in BKK from hoteling, eatery, shopping, nightlife, etc. But for the best place to live, I doubt if we are even in Top 50.

I don't think Bangkok is the greatest city, even in Thailand, theres many cities more attractive and cleaner and unpolluted in Thailand.

If most tourists had a choice they would probably give BKK a miss.

But as far as I can see Thailand it's self is a great destination for tourists for many reasons.

well thailand is classed as a developing country. meaning its almost there but not quite.

I was kidding with the 3rd world comment. but what criteria they base this on cause I'm sure Bangkok is top for a few things even if they like it or not.

maybe they top for number of coups or number of unfit policemen.

conrats to Bkk for being in the top 3..

but i dont think Italy a third world country...Argentina... maybe...

I think we need a real english speaking editor of the headlines page in the Nation/./

It should read more like.. Bangkok named (or ranked) third in[sic] World's Best City

instead of : Bangkok named third World's Best City

ESL classes anyone???

Yes I agree that the editor needs a good kick for printing a potentially misleading headline like that...but read it again, carefully, including the information about the Award dinner itself "Travel + Leisure World's Best Awards 2007"...

So the awards are called the "Worlds Best" (note that I don't think there should be an apostrophe).

It means that the top three cities according to Travel + Leisure Magazine are:

First Place - Florence

Second Place - Buenos Aires

Third Place - Bangkok

Just unfortunate sentence structure...
