                           Just been looking at the event that Wallace posted in Melbourne .       Got me thinking ; that Melbourne must be the TF sister city to Bangkok .                         I am not the most patriotic of persons , but Melbourne Rocks !!!

                      For those that live here or those that want to visit here ;

            What's so special about Melbourne ???                         The people ? The weather ? The **** load of Thai restaurants ?The **** load of pubs/bars ? Aussie rules football ? Trams ?                    To me , Melbourne is truly an Australasian city . We have strong ties with Asia , even our mayor ; John So , was born in Hong Kong . So there is hope that one day Wallace could be Mayor of Melbourne too .                         What are your thoughts ???  Anyone ???

i lived there for 3 years. it took me about 18 months to get used to the different lifestyle having come from brisbane where it is sunny and nice weather for most of the year. but after i adapted, i truly loved the place. when i was there in the 80's, it was the vietnamese that where most prolific. it goes in cycles, chinese, then the greeks and italians, then the vietnamese and now, it looks like the walllaces :)

Wow what an image! Wallace for PM and Poonie for Australias "First Lady"...see, I've been away so long I cant remember what we call the PMs wife! Oh...OK...maybe "The PM's Wife"....haha!

Will Gav be the Minister for Primary Industries (Wine Sector)...?

Melbourne was my home when I was a kid...(yes Grezzzy...it was there even then...)

After moving to Brissy when I was about 10 or so I have never looked back, but I can see why Melbournites like the place...and why former Brisbanites would take a year and a half to get used to the loss of sunshine and decent weather...but I digress...

The place is loaded with good restaurants and is very "cosmopolitan"...I guess thats why Cosmo lives there..!

I even tried Sydney for about 14 months, but to no avail.. the nicest part of the NSW near northern coast has to be Nelsons Bay, and I guess one of the nicest stretches of coastline in Oz would be beside the Great Ocean Road running from Geelong around eventually to Adelaide...but I still prefer the northern capital...it's warmer...

Seems like Wallace could go quite far in politics ,

@ spiroidal ; If I was ever one of those piss heads that woke you up at 4am ; I apologise .

Black Rock is a great place to live as well as Sandringham . My favourite suburb is Williamstown , but unfortunately too expensive for me .

I think Melbourne differs to Sydney , in that people from so many different ethnic backgrounds , tend to gel better in Melbourne than what they do in Sydney . My observation only .

I grew up in Coburg as a youngster and most of the people living there , were from an Italian and Greek background . Nowadays , if you walk around the Melbourne CBD area , you could be forgiven in thinking that Melbourne is an Asian city . Melbourne has a strong European and Asian influence , whilst never forgetting its Anglo-Saxon heritage . I love the historic aspects of Melbourne and at the same time think the Docklands area looks fantastic .

Finally , I really do love the weather here .

I agree with Phil about Melbourne. I grew up in Beaumaris, which these days you need a bloody lot of lolly to buy a house, and then Berwick and Upper Beaconsfield, and last seen in Elwood/Elsternwick 20 years ago . . . . moved to the Big Mango after that, but despite that I'm still proud to be a Melbournian.

1 in 5 or 6 people living in Oz are Asian, which definitely shows in Melbourne, and of course there are people from many other countries, which makes Melbourne a very cosmopolitan city. The other aspects besides the trams are the great parks and gardens, history, close access to many places to get away for the weekend.

And if you want to see a nice Oz city, I'd recommend Melbourne !!

I love Melbourne, although I have been a Sydneysider for 12 long, beautiful years. Between the two i would go back to Sydney, but Melbourne has a special place in my memory.
