Role play

Which role do you prefer ? What is your favorite position? And are you willing to try something new or are you conservative?

I got a call from a very good friend of mine who owns a travel agency. His friend wanted his help to organize an annual company party for an international company because his staffs don’t speak English so my friend got me on my day off.

I did not think it would turn out to be something different; irritating yet interesting.

Thought I was going to be there as an interpreter and an English MC at night. But it turned out that I gotta be on the bus to pick them up from BITEC ..had to serve them drinks..put tags on their luggages ..checked them in etc. and what I was supposed to do was not started until 7 in the evening.

I was really irritated for the way that I was treated as if I was just a nobody. There was one moment that I felt like taking off my shoes and throw them at someone’s head for being  rude and acted if I didn’t understand a word. The guy who was the organizer from the company shook his head and called his secretary over when I asked him to repeat what he wanted me to prepare for the demonstration for the seminar. Not that I didn’t understand English but I didn’t understand what he wanted to do.

I felt like yelling in his ears that I had organized a bigger conference of 300 people and those VIP people from different countries paid high respect to me. I felt like yelling to his face that I might make less than him…I might not be the country representative but I was not a nobody at all !!!!

But when I thought again…though my friend said “Nave, can you help me?” but I knew he meant I would be paid for that ..and it’s not that much. But think twice !! I’m always against those 7/11 people who never wear smiles on their faces when saying ‘Sawatdee’,  some of them even ask if you wanna have some ‘milk’ to go with your sanitary pad !!!! I freakingly hate those who never work with their whole heart. I believe that even when you own a small noodle vendor, if you put your whole heart in it then doesn’t mean that you can’t be happy with it. How I hate it when I tell a staff to do something and he doesn’t do it with his full potentials.

I was hired to work. My role was to give the best service !!! Then my whole attitude was changed.

As much as I don’t want to get that kind of feedback from my staff, I believed that the guy who hired me didn’t  want me to be like that either.

I got less than 5000 Baht for that whole day and night. I make more for my copy writing, I charge  per hour when I MC-ing…But what I gained was more !! I took a break from my ‘Ms. Director’ role. Yesterday, one of my teacher was in hospital for an urgent operation-tho I had lots in hands but hurrily I went to the hospital as soon as I heard the news.  I learn more that my staff would prefer ‘Thank You’ and a smile on my face.

That night I went to bed about one in the morning. I had less than 6 hours to put my boss mask back on. But I was so excited to confront the new day with my new attitude !!

It’s not always bad when your position or role is switched. If you humble yourself, you will find that you gain more !!!

p.s. met a cute guy at the party...heard that he was starring at me..but too bad that i only knew his name...dang it Embarassed

Im conservative, yet willing to try something new / exciting ;-)

Things will always come out wonderfully when you put your heart in whatever you do.

From my role at work, I dont have to get involve with staff's personal issues, just assignments from boss. But from my personality they feel free to talk/share to me.. Therefore, you can see me sometime dress up professional when i play the role inter-receptionist greeting company guests from overseas while sometime see me sit at the 'ÃéÒ¹ÃÒËÒõÒÃÊÑè§' near my office drinking beer chang surrounded by the engineers. Yes, im a darling of them.

I used to get annoyed when people didn't do their jobs properly. Now I realise I'm just ruining my own day. There will always be stupid and/or irresponsible people and getting upset about them is pointless. Better to try to avoid working with stupid people, and when they can't be avoided just be thankful that they make you look even smarter ;-)

<<5,000 baht a day?! I'll help! ;)>>

Yep... seems not bad for 5 hours of work.

Deal with people who doesn't respect you and what you are doing is not that easy... It needs a

lot of selfcontrol to keep the right attitude

I understand how you feel. I had a change in life in my late 20's that made me decision to change career and go to university. I went form running a bank to being a student part time with awful part time jobs on a low income for a while. Luckily I had my DJ work to fall back on to help me survive. But it is amazing how people treat you in different Job roles. When I worked at the bank people would wear a suit and shake my hand before they spoke to me but when I worked part time at a pub as a student the same type of person would shout at me like I did not deserve any respect for doing my job.

Treat everyone with respect no matter who someone appears to be we are all the same.

If I had to work at 7-11 or Mcdonalds making **** wage , i don't know how long i could go on pretending I was happy and cheery all the time.

That being said, the 7-11 near my place always are laughing and playing jokes and smiles galore.

Guess it depends on the atmosphere.
