For me, Thailand is the best!

Just got back from Cambodia late night Friday. I seem to dislike going away for business trip more and more now. Maybe it's that I never really like the cities that I have to visit, but I don't have any other choice. It was my 7th time in Cambodia within the past 2 years. I don't know the city as well as I should, but in a way, I didn't really wanna explore more about it. I am so spoil living in Bangkok where everything is so convenient, available and most of all cheaper in comparison to other Indochina countries. One might think that the cost of living in Vietnam and Cambodia would be more affordable than Thailand. Yet, meals, fuels, internet, and even hospital are more expensive there than here, considering Thai people on average earn more. Comparing Phnom Penh to Bangkok, a waiter in a 3 star hotel would earn about 80 - 100 USD, while in Thailand one would earn around 250 - 300 USD. At the same time, a bowl of noodle on the street would cost about 1 - 1.5 USD in PHN, but a dollar or less in BKK. Also, the quality of the food here is better than in PHN. Although I always get to stay in a luxurious hotel and dine at wherever I want during my business trip, it is still very hard to enjoy myself over there. There's a big difference between traveling for work and traveling for fun. I normally like exploring things and seeing new things but after going back to the same place, same area for 3-4 times, it's no longer exciting for me. The worst part is I start comparing those cities to Bangkok and found them more and more boring. I try to spend the least time possible in those countries and counting the day until I get to come home. It might sound very narrow-minded, but given a choice, I'd rather be in Thailand than traveling to Cambodia and Vietnam now. It's just so good to be home!

welcome back.. I travel with work too so I feel your pain being on the road can be a ******. it must be a real challenge to do business in these places.

I love Thailand nothing like the experience of the culture the food and people. Unlike Thailand, Unfortunately war has taken it's toll on these places they may or may not ever catch up to the rest of the world. I think Cambodia is a bit charming rustic. Many of my friends affectionately say it reminds them of the old US wild west.

I have visited these places. with all things considered the people especially Cambo are a very resilient peoples. so I suggest if you are a tourist continue your journey onward. So many things to see especially in Cambo it offers the world Angkor Wat one of the most amazing places I have seen in my lifetime including the US Grand Canyon. break of dawning I know what you mean there is nothing like 'home sweet home'..

never been to Cambodia myself.

I like travelling and put effort to it. But I have been once in Bejing and felt really homesick and lonely (amongst the group tours)

Thanks for all your comments.

As much as traveling intrigues me, it's totally different when you go on a business trip and leisure. I do agree with GoodKarma that if you have never been to Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam as a tourist you should. Angkor Wat is amazing, so amazing that I have seen it 3 times. Banteay Srei is a little bit off but it's well worth a visit.

People in Cambodia and Laos are still very charming, and friendly. Vietnamese might be a little different. It takes time to get used to them, but from time to time, they can be quite friendly and helpful.

My only complaint is that I go to these countries very often. The first couple of times are very exciting, everything is new, different and charming in their own way. I just wish to get a change of scene from time to time, that's all.

Anyway, as GoodKarma say "Home Sweet Home". I'm off to sleep in my own bed, Yay!
