Road Trip to Yorkshire Part II

We had a much better day on Sunday, since there was no rain. As much as we wanted to leave early, we ended up driving off a little bit after 9 am. We wanted to stop by Castle Howard to see if we could at least get a glimpse of the house, but if you don't pay, you aren't allow to see anything in this country. :-P The house was closed at the moment, so it was kind of a waste and a stupidity on our end that we didn't check the website carefully before planning this trip. So... there went another highlight of this trip. T_TAs we were heading to Whitby the next destination, we drove through farm area and the sun was shining. That was when I started to see how beautiful England is. The grass is so green and dotted with white sheep scattering all over the field all the way towards the horizon where the blue sky and white cloud meet with the grass. At some point, uphill, you can see miles of winding roads up and down with the beautiful green and blue sky. I am definitely in this country at the wrong time!We arrived at Whitby when it was close to 11 am. Whitby Abbey was just a ruin but it was extremely beautiful and hynotising. We spent around an hour observing different corner of what is left of the abbey. Then we walked down 190 steps to the absolutely adorable old Whitby town. The houses were so small like what you might imagine in children's story books. There was a shop selling old fashioned toffees and fudges, which was a delight to see and get a glimpse of the old English. We stopped by for some cakes take away at a small shop call Marie Antoinette, and they have a wonderful cup cake. I wish we had more time to walk around Whitby! After climbing up the 190 steps and a 5 mins walk back to the car park, we headed off to Scarborough castle. It was kind of a false advertisement for the Scarborough castle, it was just a ruin and there is anothing much left there apart from the wall and some part of the keep and that's all. The castle is high up so you can see the town below, which could be quite a view, but it wasn't that great for a photo though. After trying to make the most of the castle, we walked down to the sea front town for something to eat. Unfortunately the town was developed into a crappy place with arcades and many dirty looking people around, I don't find anything nice about the town. We went to ASK Italian restaurant for our lunch/dinner and the food was quite impressive. With the day so short, we decided to drive back at around 5 pm. It was a wonderful weekend. I would say the drive and the trip on Sunday have a very positive impact on me toward the UK. I still haven't changed my mind about the tasteless food here though. :-PWhatever you are doing,  have a great time!

Funky House -- I don't think I'd be able to save up enough to come back next summer. Better yet, I'll save up and visit a less expensive country!

Treborz -- Leeds? I don't remember they have good looking footballer... so no, I'm not gonna stop by there! :-P

Willy_b_good -- Heard of the Dracula story... kinda cool to visit the place. I kinda understand where the inspiration comes from esp. St. Mary cemetery area! Must be really spooky in the evening/night!

P'Nicky -- thank you ka.

Danno -- thanks for your comments in both journals. I think the place makes good photos by itself. Sometimes all u have to do is press the button and the photo will look totally beautiful regardless of the photographer's skill. Whitby Abbey is one example, another place is Yosemite National Park.

P'1 -- I took around 230 photos during my trip, I doubt how big ur memory card have to be, if u get to be here! ^_^

Soda -- the attractions are quite clean, but the town is much dirtier than I'd imagined England to be. To a certain degree, I think Siam Square area is cleaner than York city center. O_O

P'Tudtu -- Thanks for being a loyal visitor! ;-) I wanted to do it the same way but I am using laptop without a mouse, so it's kinda horrible doing the copy and paste job. Will see if I can accommodate ur request on my next trip to London next week na ka.
